I've had my license suspended in the past for failure to pay a ticket. Will this affect my chances of becoming a truck driver? I've never had a DUI or any serious tickets in the past.
Having your license suspended will be noticed by most companies and schools, of course, but in your case will cause them little or no concerns whatsoever. Very few companies will say they will not hire a driver because their license had been suspended in the past. I think almost everyone, myself included, has had suspensions in the past for failure to pay tickets and the companies won't care much about that. They want to know why you had your license suspended more than anything else. If it was because of serious violations, bad accidents, DUI's, or even child support then that would be a whole different ballgame. But in your case, don't be concerned about it - you're fine.
Let me say this, though - be honest with any company or school you apply to. Ever since 9/11/2001, companies and schools have been granted access to far more sophisticated background checks. From the things I've seen companies find out about people, they are either hiring some top-notch investigators, getting access to government databases, or as I presume - both. You're not going to be able to hide your past from them like you could before. They will find out. If they see you're lying to them they will become very suspicious, and many companies will not hire you if they feel you purposely lied on your application - so don't. Be honest and you'll be fine.
