While the starting pay at CR England is slightly below the industry average, pay raises come quickly during the first year. After one year of employment, driver pay is about average for the industry. Of the 3 options you have once training is complete, we highly recommend you either remain a second seat driver or become a company driver. Leasing a truck may seem enticing at times, but through our research, drivers will always come out ahead as a company driver.
While some dedicated and regional positions do exist, most drivers must drive in the OTR division for a minimum of 6 months to 1yr. Even though the regional and dedicated freight at CR England is growing, new drivers should expect to remain in the OTR division for at least one year. Even at that point, most regional and dedicated drivers are hand chosen. Those positions normally do not come with any additional home time or pay increases.
CR England does incentivize drivers to lease a truck from them. We’ve researched many lease operator programs and don’t see any advantage to leasing a truck over driving a company supplied truck on the company driver pay scale. In fact, as we crunch the numbers, company drivers always come out on top.
Most company drivers operate Freightliner Century and Cascadia models, although CR England does own Peterbilt, Volvo, and Kenworth models as well.

A very small portion of the fleet is currently outfitted with APU units. Lease operators may pay to have one installed on their own trucks, but most company trucks do not have them. Idling is allowed when drivers need to control cab temperatures.
As with most companies of this size, equipment appears to be well maintained and consists of newer aged trucks and trailers. Often times, larger companies have a distinct advantage over smaller companies as far as equipment is concerned. They have the ability to purchase trucks, trailers, and parts in bulk orders enabling huge savings which affords them the ability to run newer equipment that is well maintained and less prone to break-downs.
