Chris V.'s Bio

I have worked in the corporate world most of my life in technical service for large corporations. After working for years I was laid off. I say back and looked at what I have done in life and while I loved my job I have never done what I want to. I am looking to do something I know I will enjoy for a change.

Lumpers are a pain....

I deliver to Sysco in Pokemoke MD. Every week and it is the same thing like you just stated. Typically 3.5 hours for under 10 pallets. 100.00 lumper fee

Had a delivery to the Sysco in Lincoln NE on Monday after 3 store deliveries that took stupidity to a whole new level. I made it there at roughly 6:15am for a 8 am appt. No big deal I figure ill have to wait. I was told "you're just delivering 1 pallet of 17 cases we'll get you a door in a couple minutes". Hour and a half later around 750am I receive a call telling me what door to hit. After they lock me in and light turns red, then green I pull out. I am then to pull out of the door and wait for an additional text telling me what the lumper fee is. That text for the lumper fee took an additional 1:30. Within 5 minutes I had the comchek code written down (as they required rather than a physical check) and went inside. It was then an additional 30 minutes standing there waiting for them to verify the funds before allowing me to go.

Total time spent at Sysco was nearly 4 hours from the time I pulled in until I pulled out all for 17 cases (10 of one product, and 7 of another). Lumper fee was $25. The day ended up being 15.5 hours with only 420 miles. Heres the kicker : It WASNT Capstone doing the unloading shocked.png can we just be done with the covid rules so I can rip that tiny pallet off myself and get on with my day? Or better yet, do away with lumper fees!

Need help with issue

He is feeding off of your feelings gay and flamboyance.

Thanks for the replies. I don’t think good training for 30-45 days is worth me being this uncomfortable when I could get good training and be comfortable. I would be more comfortable with a trainer that has a bad temper than be in this situation. Also, a woman trainer would be just fine, I don’t care. I don’t agree that this is the same as politics and religion because your normal can’t see somebody’s politics or religion. You can definitely see this as it’s being flaunted in my face daily. In today’s culture with the SJW and the “if you don’t agree with me then you’re wrong” crowd I’m a little hesitant to ask for a new trainer when the reason is obvious. The problem is the over the top flamboyance, daisy dukes, flirting, and just the in general man trying to be a woman. It’s absolutely disgusting. If I say one wrong word to him or to my driver manager I could be seen as being homophobic. This ultra sensitive world we now live in makes things more tricky. I just can’t call my driver manager and honestly tell him how I feel. I have to carefully craft my sentences which is ridiculous.

Stranded I-80 AGAIN

Gave fun and safe trip. Crappy and raining in Hampton Roads

I’m stuck here at the Petro in York Nebraska for my first Midwestern winter storm as a truck driver.

Call me crazy but I’m loving it. I can imagine it won’t take me long at all until I’m singing a different tune, though!

UPS Freight Sold

Silly nubie question but who is yrc?

Woah this is big news. I wasn't even aware that they were in that kind of trouble. I'm still amazed that YRC and Holland havent gone belly up. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

CB Radio and hands free laws

Thank you!

Chris, we had a discussion a good while back on this subject. I looked it up for you. Take a look at it, you might find something informative in it. I've never heard of anyone being ticketed or fined for using a C.B. radio.

Off to Stevens Transport on Monday the 10th, after 20+ years off the road

Great to hear! Iam 57 and my CDL Chris

Off to Stevens Transport on Monday the 10th, after 20+ years off the road

First of all, for those who thought you may be to old to start a driving career, go for it. I am in my late 60's. I drove during the 70's, 80's & 90's but had a desk job for the past 24 years. Now that I am retired, I going back on the road for a few years.

I know there are a couple of people in these forums that suggested I might want to keep looking for another place to start and I appreciate your opinion. But Stevens was the only place in the past 2 to 3 months that would take me with no recent experience and since since I have my CDL the recruiter said, if you can believe him, the refresher course would only be a few days to maybe a week depending on my skills training.

I have to find out if I can still do it. Not all the bull crap stuff the company may ask me to do but the driving, dealing with the traffic, the hours behind the wheel, waiting to get loaded/unloaded, working with dispatchers, truck stop parking etc... those kind of things.

So I am leaving this Sunday and starting orientation on Monday. If anyone is interested, I'll try and update the blog with my experiences objectively while at Stevens. I'm excited and apprehensive at the same time,

Brian
