Establishing residency in Nevada or Washington
I got my CDL and am waiting for a trainer to become available. I'm being paid while waiting and I'm not a huge fan of having to fork over 9% of my check every week to a state that I soon won't be living in very much. I want to give myself a raise by moving to either Nevada or Washington, but I don't want to actually rent an apartment because once I'm on my own and am sure this is what I want to do long term, I'll be living on the truck other than occasionally crashing at friends places and motels while I save up to buy a place. How did you establish residency in one of those states and what service did you use?

Company driving school wants me to hitchhike to get to class
Violet, I tend to read between the lines. Maybe it's not even reading between the lines but reading more into something than is intended. Please feel free to correct me if any of this is wrong, but here's what I have gathered from your posts...
Don't read between the huge gaps that I didn't fill in. My partner and I are visibly ***** and did not feel safe accepting rides with a bunch of strange men in the part of the country where people like us are routinely discriminated against. We did not want to gamble our future on other peoples bigotry. My partner and I switched to another company that has a better training program, pay, and reputation. Turns out my work history wasn't as bad as I thought It was. I had only applied to one company before and got a job offer right away. I did so again last Friday and will be in class on the 19th. My big takeaway from this is to not settle for less when there are a lot of better choices out there and to stop undervaluing myself. Companies that are serious about making successful drivers invest the resources necessary to do so. Companies that are more interested in pinching pennies while making money hand over fist are a large factor in the self inflicted truck driver shortage. I look forward to proving myself and navigating stressful situations.

Company driving school wants me to hitchhike to get to class
My partner and I got accepted into a company paid trucking school, and when they sent over the paperwork, it said that we would be responsible for organizing my own transportation between the lodging and school. This school is over 2k miles away from us and they are paying for our airfare. We simply cannot afford the commute if we were to go by taxi/uber/etc and the school isn't within walking distance nor is there any public transportation. Their "solution" is to ask other students for a ride. We are not willing to gamble thousands of dollars of repayments if we are unable to get to class because of someone else. It feels like we are being set up for failure before we have even started.
Is this normal? Are there trucking companies that train couples that don't do this?

Beginning trucking teaming with lack of verifiable employment
Over the last 5 years I have worked for factory A (for 1 year 2018-2019 and then factory B in 2019 to early 2020. I'm recently back to working at factory A again. The 5 years previous I worked two more jobs with not much of a gap in-between
My partner has no verifiable employment for the last 10 years. She's on the board of two non profits but it's in no way a 9 to 5.
I'm guessing that we need to accumulate some consistent work history but I'm not sure how much we'll need before a company would take the chance on us, especially since we would be needing training. I've tried to get some information from companies directly but didn't get anything useful.

Are there any LGBTQ friendly trucking companies in Southern California in 2022?
Prime inc. They're not local, but will hire company drivers in Cali Lots of us LGBTQ folks, there's a Facebook group for us and everyone is pretty chill. Truckers aren't generally the issue and will leave you alone. I've never had a shipper or reciever treat me poorly because of my LGBTQ status. I mostly ever get weird looks from the locals because truck stops are less and less focused on actual truckers. Me and my wife are very happy with how we have been treated by prime both as a truck driver and as visibly LGBTQ people. My trainer was also respectful and professional. I'd recommend being up front about it since you'll be living with them in a closet for several months.
Also, primes discount program with Loves truck stops gets you unlimited showers that you can use to go to the bathroom if you feel unsafe. Pilot and flying j only require half as much fuel as everyone else to get in their unlimited shower program.
