Don’t think it does here in NYS I pleaded not guilty and I got the truck fixed and the proper paperwork for court when I gotta go
This is an intriguing problem that I have never heard of. There must be a story behind this that would explain why the company had the 5th wheel welded in the forward position.
Personally, I would refuse to drive that truck if it couldn’t be made legal. Does the overweight on the steers go on your record? It doesn’t matter if the company pays the fine. If the violation goes on your DAC or any other record, you are the one getting screwed.
This is a new one to me and I am curious as to why this situation exists.

Yeah with it welded forward it overweights my steers. I work for a mining company that does fracking they just started trucking there own products when I started tried telling them I’m gonna be overweight everytime till they slide the wheel back some to take weight from my steers. They still didn’t do it so if I get inspected again just gonna get another ticket.
Looking at the photo it is not welded to the frame but to the 5th wheel track. It is no different than if it were a non sliding 5th wheel but with a broken weld. The company might not the 5th wheel to slide and that's their choice. I would have the 5th wheel re-welded and be sure of your axle weights after loading because you will not be able to shift any over weight on the drives by very much.

It’s also making me overweight on my steers I got Dot inspected and caught a 32% overweight ticket my company said they will pay it but they didn’t fix the issue so Im gonna be overweight everytime cause we run 107k on our permits
Is it legal to weld the 5th wheel fully forward so it don’t slide anymore my company did this ontop of that the welds are breaking

Opportunity to get my own Truck
Thank’s BK I’m still at odds but really thinking about it. My ole lady wants me to stay local or id hit the open road
And the run to the landfill is only about 32 miles both ways
I don’t want to discourage you in following your dream but you have left out alot of critical information.
How much experience do you have driving a truck?
How much experience do you have running a business??
What type of freight are you planning on hauling?
Are you planning on running power only or getting your own trailer??
Do you have your own potential customers?
What freight lanes are you looking at running??
Are you planning on running load boards using brokers??
How much have you been quoted for insurance??
How much cash on hand do you have for startup costs??
If you lease onto a company you run under their authority and insurance. You run their ELD. That means they call the shots.
This is just a quick starter group of questions you must have answers to before you buy a truck. If your under 5 years driving experience insurance will likely be very expensive.
Your friend wants to sell the cascadia, ok how is it setup? Is it spec’d for the work you intend to do with it. Trucks are not all equipped the same. You need the right truck for the right job.
Just some things for you to think about before making this big a decision.
Rates are in the toliet and not looking to improve in the near future. Fuel is probably going back up shortly given the saudi’s cutting production by 1 million barrels a day.
If you have any further questions just ask.
William, that clarifies things a lot. Might just work for you in your situation.
Everybody here is very cautious about encouraging drivers to get their own authority because most plans are not very well thought out and times are tough for OOs.
If you decide to do this, I hope it is successful for you. Good luck.
