Considering A Career

Like many, I have been a life-long fan of trucking. I grew up during the so-called golden age of trucking and wanted to drive from my youngest days. Life took different turns, and I ended up serving a career in the military and moved right into the regular workforce afterwards. I'm beginning to think of what I want to do once I say goodbye to the rat race. One of my previous jobs was as a counter man and delivery driver for a plumbing supply store in NJ. My best days at work ever were behind the wheel of that Ford F350 stake-bed truck picking up loads and dropping them off. In one memorable day, I made a pickup in Staten Island and hopped over to Philly for another, arriving back at the shop well after dark. That was a good day! I am a handful of years yet from moving on to the next phase. But in the meantime, I want to be ready. Unfortunately, I can't commit to full-time trucking right now. But I do have opportunities now to drive hazmat for a fireworks display company that I am a lead shooter with. In addition to that, I'd like to find a local part-time gig (if such a thing exists) to get more experience.
20+ year Army vet in a non-related field. CDL w/ hazmat will be of use right now to transport UN 1.3 fireworks for a pyrotechnics company I work for part-time. Most of this driving does not require a Class A license, but there are opportunities for this as well. In the near-term I am interested in some part-time local driving to gain experience. Once I'm done with my current job, more driving / distance is a definite possibility!
As of the spring of 2021, I'm researching driving schools and studying in preparation for that next step. There is a lot to learn, but I'll show up ready to roll... Hope to see you on the highway soon!

A first for me
Consumer fireworks! From a hazmat load perspective, is there a difference between hauling UN 1.4 and UN 1.3 (professional/display) fireworks?
