TxCoach's Bio

I'm ready for the next career...LOL!

I grew up wanting to be a trucker like my Grandfather but along the way decided to chase a little fame in the broadcasting world through most of my 20's. By the time I was 28; career number 2 came as I had started my own business working with access control systems, CCTV systems, and fire alarm systems until selling to a partner to pursue a dream of owning a small market radio station.

After 5 years of operating the station, I made career move number 3 into education taking a job teaching math and coaching high school sports. Working in education has now run its course and it's time for another change; I find myself single with my boys grown and doing great and I am ready to pursue the original dream in trucking!

Life is a wonderful adventure and I can't wait to see what the next phase has in store!

Start Training in January

Haven't been on the site for a couple of weeks winding down the with the old job, getting moved to a new home, studying some pre-trip material, and planning a get away after Christmas. I'm excited to get going next month and got the update email from Millis today making sure I had provided everything required on my end. It's going to be an interesting journey.

BTW, Joel, I had my construction company before teaching and coaching. LOL Well, that's a little misleading, I installed commercial low voltage electric systems on new construction projects. See you in a few weeks!

And So It Begins... Just Gave My Notice

Congrats on the new career! I submitted my letter of resignation this week and am counting down to my last day of December 17th and will begin school in January with Millis. It was a tough choice for me between Millis and Wilson, they both seem to be great places to not only get started, but also places to stick around for a long time!

Reading your posts and the responses of others has been a tremendous help...I'm excited to be joining such a wonderful community and profession with you!

Start Training in January

Wanted to jump on board here and thank everyone for posting all their experiences! It is been a tremendous help in guiding some of my decisions.

I'll be coming to the game later than many but earlier than some; LOL, as a 56 year old moving into my 4th career. Started in radio broadcasting for 10 years, ran my own electronics company, and been working as a teacher and coach for the last 12 years...which I am leaving as of December. I am very familiar with the travel schedule and time on the road away from home having traveled 9 - 10 months per year when operating my business; which I loved, so trucking fits me perfectly and I'm excited to get started!

After considering; and over analyzing, I applied with and was accepted by Millis Transfer. Gave lots of consideration to Wilson and Prime with all 3 companies appearing to be places I could see staying at for the forseeable future but chose Millis because of the convenience of the training being 15 minutes from my home here in Texas. So until the January training class begins I will bide my time counting down the days until I leave education, enjoy a short break and vacation, learn all I can here about pre-trip inspections, and be ready to hit the road running in 2022!

Thanks again for the information here! Hopefully I can pay forward something moving forward.
