Just got my Class A CDL here in Texas. Had my CLP since December, but DPS was so booked up that I could not take my skills test until Feb.28th. Studying for my tanker and double/triple endorsements. Have to have the Hazmat EDLT training prior to taking the endorsement test. I found one on line at CL2go.com that was only $59. It automatically sent my certificate of completion to FMCSA. Just thought I would pass that along to anyone looking for Hazmat training that was reasonably priced.

Hello, I am about a year away from retirement. I will be 60 yrs old at that time. Have worked as a health care professional for the last 35 years. I just got my CLP here in Texas, and am going to use a private training company that is an approved FMCSA training provider. After having read many remarks on this site, I know that most do not recommend getting your CDL on your own. Most on here say do either company sponsored school or some other driving school. This private company is going to provide me with a weeks worth of training and I will be able to use their truck for my skills test. My hope is to find a local job after I retire. It will not be a have to situation, but more like something that I have always wanted to pursue. If I have to go with a company and get "reschooled", I will be ok with that. I am looking at it as getting some pre-training. My question is , do you think I will have an opportunity to get hired by going this route, full time or part time after I retire?

Well, tried to schedule a date to do the endorsements, DMV web site wont let me since I have an appointment for my skills test. Can not have 2 appointments scheduled, even if its on different days. So, I will have to wait until I do my skills test then schedule for endorsements.

The DMV person would not let me take the endorsement exams until I have the CDL. I think I will probably go ahead and schedule for them the week after my skills test.

Am scheduled to take my Texas CDL skills test on Feb. 28th. Is there any certain wait period after getting my CDL, to take my endorsements? I have been studying pretty much daily for the pre trip, as well as studying for Hazmat, tanker and double/triples. Thinking about going ahead and scheduling the test date, as it took me about a month to get a date for the CLP, and that was at a neighboring town, ,my local DMV was booked out 2 1/2 months when I tried to schedule. Wondering if I could go ahead and schedule for the week after my skills test?

Hazmat EDLT training
Yes, it is my understanding that it is a federal law now that if you have never had a Hazmat endorsement prior to Feb.7th, that you have to complete Hazmat ELDT training prior to being able to take the Hazmat endorsement exam. In Texas, you have to have proof that you completed the ELDT training before they will let you take the endorsement exam, then you will schedule your fingerprint session, and have to pass the TSA threat assessment before being issued the endorsement. The course that I mentioned was thorough, but not extremely difficult. It took me about 2 hours to get thru and then you have to pass the exam at the end of the course. Once you have passed the exam at the end, it automatically sends your results to FMCSA, as well as allows you to print off a copy of your certificate of completion. I checked the FMCSA web site 24 hrs after completion and it was there. I am scheduled to take the Hazmat endorsement exam as well as the tanker and double/triple endorsements next Monday.
