DOT Reflective Tape Questions

I was told straight/solid style box trucks do not need dot tape on the front or back.... supposedly it's stated in the article rules somewhere. Any truth to this? Just want to cover my butt and not get dot violations.

Hazmat load securing questions

Should be fine. You have to strap hazmat to a wall, regardless of weight. The rest of the stuff doesn't have to be secured.

So even if one box the size of a bowling ball on a pallet, still has to be strapped in?

DOT Reflective Tape Questions

I drive CDL B box trucks, we lease them from Ryder. They never come with front or rear dot tape, hell not a front tag with my state being a front tag required. Aren't these things all violations? Or do these not apply for B stuff? Cause I always hear the A guys saying you need the dot tape on trailers etc etc.

Just confused to if so, why is Ryder releasing these things to us like this?

New driver, first time getting pulled over, what now?

Howdy again, 'Not I.'

"If at ALL." Your words. Have you discussed it with 'safety' at YOUR company? Do we know of them????

Have you looked at an abstract online from your DMV/BMV? (Again, adding your state to the profile (at least) would help the pro's on here, help you.

Next: Have you gotten your 1x a year 'free' DAC? Keep in mind, these take awhile to 'update' in the HireRight system.

Here's the link: Copy of DAC from HireRight (Drive'A'Check fyi..)

Also, check out your PSP score: PSP (Pre Employment Screening) link.

A PSP record costs $10. This fee includes a search on your current commercial driver's license record, and/or any commercial drivers license you have held during the last five years. You need to provide the license number and license state for each license.

Finally, look up your company on Saferweb; see their overall score, compared to the nat'l average, here: Safer/FMCSA.

Scroll to the bottom, and search by company name. This will give you an idea if your company takes safety 'seriously' or not.

Best to ya!

~ Anne ~

Found them, so what am I looking at there/for to judge how safe my workplace is. Says satisfactory at the bottom. We're a couple crashes and injuries I seen though above that.

Still curious on how this works...

Yes I had all placards up, wasn't anything to do with that, it was cause he said I stopped too late. The railroad was on a major highway, 65mph, I was trying to be cautious and not sudden stop at those speeds due to traffic. Which I guess he understood in some sense for just the warning.

I am curious also do these exact violations show in the database? From my research other companies can't specifically see what they were for on my profile, just actual points, is this true or am I misinformed?

It's because you had placards. You're only required to stop if you have placards.

Your employer can put it on your DAC report if they choose to. If you apply to another company and they pull up your DAC, there's a chance it can be there.

So if my manager just turned the signed paper in for it being resolved with the bulbs out it won't show in the system for me? Companies/my company can sign and turn these warnings/reports in without actually reporting my violations into the system or something to effect me? Maybe I am misinformed, just trying to understand this all and how my future will be effected if at all.

What are some tricks of the trade for checking tire pressure?

We lease from Ryder, now I have drove to their service centers, I have never noticed of they fill them or not, I don't see a machine, I think they only do fuel and actual repairs.

What are some tricks of the trade for checking tire pressure?

I am still learning odds and ends that the vets use in this line of work. Do you guys use certain things or your own procedures to check tire pressure? The guy who trained me for instance banged on the side of the tire with a rubber mallet and somehow knew if it needed air or not. If that isn't good enough what else can we do? If I have to actually check the pressure does it have to be a specific guage meant for truck tires? Or will any standard tire pressure gauge for example like a car would use work? Also is there any special technique with the guage to check the pressure on these truck tires?

Hazmat load securing questions

I am curious about something to avoid any DOT issues/violations. I drive a box truck, now we strap in full hazmat pallets/loads ...but the guys that fill the trucks for us do not strap in random products on pallets along with say 50-150lbs give or take hazmat product that may be mixed in with that particular order that may have non hazmat stuff on it also. Is that not acceptable? Does a pallet of anything hazmat product wise regardless of weight have to be ratchet strapped in, or does it depend on the weight/size of that particular load?
