I've made up my mind that I want to get my CDL and drive truck for a living. I basically have two questions.
Does anyone know of companies that are especially willing to sponsor a new driver?
My second question relates to my somewhat choppy job history. How much will employers care about my history of job hopping?
For clarification, I delivered pizza for 6 months in 2016 and did remodeling for 18 months in 2017 and 2018. Then I left the job market and remained unemployed for about 5 years. There are a few ways of going forward. My failsafe plan is to go back to delivering pizza until a full time CDL training course (covered by FAFSA according to the admissions department) opens next spring. Hopefully 10 months of recent driving history will help with appearing stable and negotiating wages.
I'd rather get sponsored for a short-term trucking program and start this summer, but it's not the end of the world if I have to go back to delivering pizza.
I'm asking here in the hopes that others can weigh in and give me some places to start my job search. Maybe I'm not the first.
