Starting Truck Driving School with Schneider

I'm from AZ BK lol I'm we average 114 degree weather in the summer, not sure it gets much worse then here. Got my cowboy hat ready to go and everything. I should fit in nicely with the current Texas weather. And thank you for the advice on the small thermo.

That’s great news, Shane. The company I drive for has it’s terminal 30 miles east of Dallas in Terrell. I hope it cools down soon because you will be spending time out on the practice pad in the heat. Bring a small picnic thermos that you can use to carry ice water to the pad and in the truck. Schneider has commercial ice machines at their operating centers. And you might want a wide brim sun type hat. I notice they are used a lot down here. If it were me, I’d carry an umbrella for shade if I had to spend time on the practice pad. And it would also come in handy if it ever rains again down here, lol.

Starting Truck Driving School with Schneider

Hey Y'all

So following the advice of BK and Anne I kept applying to different companies to see who would give me a chance due to my spotty work history. I ended up picking up my CDL A permit in the process, which lead me to Schneider and they decided to give me a chance. I will be starting Their CAT Program on the first and will be flying out to Dallas Texas to start school this Sunday.

Thus, I want to thank both of you for advising me to keep applying and that someone would give me a chance.

Work history verification issues.

Hi Shane. Sorry to hear about your dad.

Have you called any trucking companies and talked with a recruiter? That’s their job to answer questions like the one you are asking. Call a number of companies and see what the recruiters tell you. And then post the results of your discussions with them. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply BK. So far I've talked to recruiters at both swift and prime. They have explained to me that there's a good chance that my somewhat non existant history will be an issue, and that it will be up to their hiring managers to decide...

Work history verification issues.

Hello y'all,

I have been a lurker of this site for a bit over 2 years now. I just recently decided to pull the trigger and try to become a truck driver however,I have run in to a issue involving my verifiable work history. To Start after I graduated high school I took about two years off from everything to enjoy life ( yes I know I was dumb) after I started going to college part time for about 3 years before my father got sick with cancer.

I was his stay at home nurse for around 2 to 2.5 years he passed away in April of 2020 right when the covid lock downs started... Once the lock downs ended, I immediately went and found a job. In the 3rd month of this year I went back to school fulltime for a semester and half way through I left my job to focus on making sure I kept my grades in the A's and B's. During this short peroid of time I found that I hated not working and was miserable.

I guess my main question is will I be able to be hired on as a truck driver with this spotty work history or do I need to work for another year or two before I try applying to company's.

I would appreciate any advice on what to do here becuase I really do want to be a truck driver.

Thanks
