Brand New seeking to upgrade CDL Morale lowered

Many Years ago I obtained A CDL. I’ve decided that I want to upgrade, so I recently started at A private School. To say I was excited is an understatement, I’m so excited to learn. My Morale has been completely lowered now. Instructor non Chalantly came out just yesterday and said if we fail the Skills Test we have to pay 500 Dollars to retest and of course we can retest as many times as we like as long as we have 500. I was literally floored I don’t want to be Babysat but it would be great to hear from anyone that’s been through this before.
