PhantomTrain thanks for the post. First off, I am surprised that you are not making great money in IT. I thought they were paying good salaries in IT. What specifically are you doing in IT? Either way, I think you have answered your own question here. If you hate your job and you are miserable and you are not even making enough money to keep the lights on give trucking a whirl.

Anybody Know a Sketchy Trucking Companys Who would Hire Anyone?
Scott, Why the heck are you looking for a sketchy trucking company. If you look in the wrong direction then you are going to create more problems for yourself. Why on earth would you ever look for sketchy anything? This is always no good. Take some advice from BK and go look for a class B type of driving job. You will get an opportunity. You just need to stick with it.

new guy contemplating on going OTR
The pay seems low. Jason, I would be asking what the bonuses and accessorial pay are based on? Then, try to figure out if that type of bonus system would make sense for you.

Delivering to interesting places
Old School why the heck did they have you deliver the supplies to the church. Does this happen often to you where you don't drop the goods to the original location. I wonder how many times you have dropped at churches?

Need advice, does this offer sound normal?
I agree with Bobcat_Bob that companies defiantly use outdated laws not to pay overtime. You are only 20 years old get some experience then come back for a higher wage. You have to make the decision yourself whether you want to take this job. Are you getting tons of other offers? If not maybe this is a safe bet considering the economy.

Victory has finally come and now the next adventure begins!
Hi Maestro,
Congratulations for getting started! As far as your question about resumes I think it depends on the company . Some companies requiere one while others do not. I would say more often than not no. What jobs are you specifically looking for? How much are they paying first time drivers nowadays?

What advice do you have for new drivers facing the road reality?
I agree with Ryan work life balance is huge. I also think enjoying the journey in general can make the overall experience more delightful. Enjoying seeing new places and being of service to the people you are delivering the loads for. If you have gratitude in the small parts of your day when you are on the road it will go very far in allowing you to go the distance in trucking.

New here. Wanted to say hello. Not your average member
Hi Nik!
Welcome to the forum. I gotta agree with PJ trucking parking is in short supply. I think it makes a whole lotta sense to get drivers feedback on this such as what exactly is needed. I think you will find that safe parking next to an interstate is probably one of most needed things. But, I would just reach out to 25 or so drivers and ask them what they think are the top three most important and document and rank it by whatever you find out.
I think another aspect of this project that might be important is figuring out what location is best for this venture. Do you have the ability to select any location in a certain radius? You should map out 5 or 10 locations that have enough traffic and then compare the prices to see which offers the most value. Selecting a good location for the right price will be key here.

I got my first kid doing the horn symbol at me :)
Hell Yea Harvest! The “trucker salute” a true classic. If watching a bunch of kids get excited after you blow your horn does not bring a smile to your face while driving you should probably re-think you profession.
