Really Need Help, Rookie Seattle Area Driver Cannot Find Work

I came to Schneider in WA state and was hired to OTR with no experience so I don’t believe that to be accurate. I’m rolling solo now, based out of WA state. There may be something else going on there but they definitely hire new drivers into OTR based out of WA. Best decision I ever made to get my career started.

they did mention they have issues backing, which was probably part of the decision not to hire them at schneider.

Suspension of license due to a safety violation

I agree with Kearsey and Turtle. if it was a false suspension, and you were back out the next day, the company you were at would have paperwork showing the false suspension and how/why it was cleared. talk to the state of Previous Residence to get any paperwork they have on the matter, and it may be as simple as having them communicate with your current state of residence to remove it as it was a paperwork error (from what I understood from what was said).

considering it was a paperwork error, it should be removed easily enough, it's just gonna take some time and effort while you figure out who you need to talk to, what forms need to be filed, etc.

good luck BKgood-luck.gif

Roehl Trucking for new drivers

For pre-trip inspection here is what was done for me by an instructor. they copied the pre-trip inspection word for word out of the book, printed that out, and then gave it to me to study and follow on my first few practice inspections, then I was allowed to reference it if I got stuck during a practice, and finally I had developed the confidence to do it without the reference material. it's really all there in the book.

Truck Driving Training School Question

Hi Nathan, RealDiehl and BK are both correct. private cdl schools can be a very big mistake. as someone who has been rejected because of the private cdl school they went to, I am painfully aware of that. going with one of the paid options is a really good idea, and I really wish I could have done so. if the paid cdl training doesn't work for you, then talk to a few different companies that you would be willing to work for and find out what specific school they advise going to to get your cdl. In a lot of cases, some companies have specific schools they hire out of, or at least that is what I have seen locally here in Utah. Also, this school you have mentioned sounds really sketchy. they don't accept any kind of payment other than wire transfers? That is really suspicious. Your local DMV/DLD should have a list of schools that are registered with the state/FMCSA, check that for legitimate schools, though be cautious of anyone offering to do it for cheap, that was another mistake I made that ended up costing me more money than it would have if I had just gone to one of the better-known schools.

Paperwork

I don't know, he wasn't home when I asked, and he didn't have good phone service. I don't even know what forms it would have to be, but he's happy to sign paperwork if I explain what it is, why I need it, and have it ready to go. I just need to know what forms that would be.

Seeking Input from Truck Drivers for Master’s Thesis Survey

Tried to participate in your survey, but my job classification wasn't there. technically not employed as a driver. at the moment my cdl is just a convenient tool for my job as a ranch hand. trying to fix that, but getting employed is hard when you can only work part time due to college.

How can I learn to drive an 8-speed?

Hi dan, as someone who has had to learn a variety of different manual transmissions over the years, find out what specific transmission it is (manufacturer and model) and then study the shift pattern. you will find some sort of description on how to shift it somewhere. I tested on a six speed myself, although I grew up driving six speeds, and then I drive ten and eighteen speeds working for my dad. but I still look up various different transmissions because you never know what you might have to drive next.

Paperwork

So, it was suggested that I look into some paperwork that would allow me to report the hay and livestock hauling I have done for my dad so that I have verifiable work experience, but I am not quite sure how to do that. Does anyone know of any way to do this? I have scale tickets for the hay, I filled them out by hand at the scale house we were using to weigh the loads to know how much to pay. they are all dated because it helped me know which ones were paid and which ones we still needed to pay for.
