Hey! My name is Tracy. I am looking forward to becoming a CDL-A holder and OTR team truck driver. My husband & I have been married for 23 years and we have 3 grown children that are serving in the military and living their lives! We are hoping to get on the road asap, in order to team drive and save for retirement.

There are a couple things going on here. The charge was 23 years ago... but when was the sentence completed?
Some companies will not accept DUIs at all.
Keep applying everywhere. Someome.will take you. But this market is not a driver's market. They can be picky.
The sentence was completed in 2005. I was given a plea bargain to accept a guilty plea of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with 3 years of supervised probation, rather than a DUI charge and time in jail. These are the specifics and facts.

Hi all, my wife and I are trying to obtain our CDL-A licenses, in order to drive OTR and make some good money to save for retirement. I have a felony charge on my record from 2001, which was labeled aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The original charge was a DUI, but because it resulted in an accident, it was upgraded to a more severe charge. I have learned a great lesson from my choice to drive under the influence at a young age. It nearly cost me my life and I put others on the road at risk. At the same time, I have never reoffended. We have applied to multiple truck driving schools, and she has been approved, while I continue to get denied. Does anyone know of any truck driving schools that are willing to give a person a second chance?

Trying to obtain paid CDL training as a team driver with my wife, but keep getting declined for a felony charge from 23 years ago.
Just wanted to follow up with everyone to give you an update on what we have researched and discovered regarding this matter.
Under the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Subtitle B, Chapter III, Subchapter B, Part 383, Subpart D TABLE 1 TO ยง 383.51, if a driver operates a motor vehicle and is convicted of:
A first conviction or refusal to be tested while operating a non-CMV, a CLP or CDL holder must be disqualified from operating a CMV for 1 year.
This happened 23 years ago, and never reoffended. Completely rehabilitated here! So, it looks as though the companies that we have applied to and been denied are mismanaging the Code of Federal Regulations!
For anyone else going through something similar.... Don't give up & do your research.
It's all good though... we are going to continue to apply with companies that know what they are doing and have integrity.
