Hi! New here. My husband has his CDL but hasn't driven in a while so he is going to take a refresher course next week. He had a good job and we both worked at the same place, a gov't contractor, but he got laid off and I am still there. We need my income right now so we can pay the bills. I have learned that a company we thought we were safe at, me in my late 40s, hubby early 50's, nothing is safe. CT is pretty much losing jobs daily all over the state.....barely any manufacturing left.
I hate my job and absolutely hate the state I live in, so his getting laid off is really a blessing in disguise. We have been in a rut for some time, living in CT which to me is ridiculous with all the taxes, we do not like some new laws in effect here and our kids are grown and out. He asked if I would be interested in getting my CDL and why not?! We love to drive, we hate desk jobs and so it begins. I will wait and see for him to get established and then I will go to school. I know I don't need a school but would be more comfortable doing that. I can go on the weekends and still work during the week. We can be away from CT hopefully much of the time, sell the house in a year or two and relocate home base to New Hampshire.
So that is our plan :) We just need a better quality of life and do not want to go broke living here. Plus we will see more of each other as we worked opposite shifts when he had his job.
