I Need help making a decision.
Thank you for replying. I've actually done most of what you said to do. Which makes me feel better about my decision. I'm planning on going down to the truck stop tomorrow and talking to people face to face. I saw that as good advice elsewhere on here. I will also be sure to PM your friends.
Thanks a bunch.

I Need help making a decision.
Hellos, my name is David.
I've decided to join the world of trucking. I could tell you why, but I'm not sure if that is important. If you want to know, just ask.
My question is, should I join Swift Tranportation as a new driver, or look elsewhere? I've never driven, but live by Troutdale, OR. A major terminal in the Northwest. From what I've read online, their school is not good, pay is not good, but I would very likely always have a load. To me the negatives don't really outweigh he positives. Steady loads, possibility of getting a dedicated run, and being home once a week sounds great. There lies the problem. I'm 40, and I've learned if something sounds too good to be true, it often is.
So is Swift he best option for someone who has no experience and lives by a main hub? I have my CDL Class A permit and all endorsements except Hazmat.
Thank you, David

Finally at Swift Academy day one!
I arrived in Lewiston, Idaho last night and immediately went to bed because we had to be up 4am.
Class starts at 5am. Nothing really big happened. Your usual first day nonsense. Here's the bathroom, fill out this paper work, and they need a urine sample for a mandatory drug test.
Be prepared to be bored. The only thing of real value was I had to take ALL the same tests I just took to get my permit and endorsements again because they want proof you should be here.
Very interesting mix of people. I will leave it at that, thank you.
Best thing that happened was I qualified for $1,000 scholarship for being in the Marine Corps. That was super awesome.
Over all impression was I am not unhappy with my decision with Swift. So far everything I have researched here, on other websites, and what the recruiter told have been true. The staff is very professional and we are near a terminal where I was able to meet Driver Managers in person. All very nice people. Again, I am very happy with my decision. It was very scary to get on a bus, leave my family, after not meeting anyone face to face, and having only the internet to guide me in my decision.
I will post more tomorrow. I have to be up soon and want to get some sleep.
Peace, David
