My Truck Got Hit

Thanks for the responses. Old School, you are right. I learned my lesson about the end spot. Tonight I am happily tucked between two other trucks.

To Andrew, the driver said it was his third day solo. I think that's what surprised me about his attitude. He was more upset that he had to do paperwork than he was about hitting me.

My truck has a decent scratch in the front and the fender mirror was bent some. His trailer was really messed up though. It had a huge dent in the back where he made contact with my fender. And it had 4 scratches about 30 feet long down the side where he scraped it along my mirror. I was upset about the damage to my truck, but at least I don't have to pull that trailer.

My Truck Got Hit

Really just wanted to vent for a minute. I was parked at a truck stop in Virginia last night and was already in the sleeper. I woke up to my truck shaking and a sound like nails on a chalkboard

My right front fender got hit by a truck trying to back into the spot directly across from me. I was in the last parking spot in the aisle, and he was basically trying to do an offset.

It didn't bother me that I was hit, but he didn't stop. The awful noise was my fender mirror scraping his trailer. He ran at least 30 feet of his trailer down my truck before he finally stopped.

Even that wouldn't have upset me too much. But during the time we spent exchanging information, he didn't seem like he cared at all.

Anyway, not much point to this. Just wanted to share. Stay safe everyone.

Working on making trucking industry better. Need your help - looking for answers and opinions.

It would be an interesting resource. But one other problem I thought of. People love to share the bad about companies, but aren't as quick to share the good.

One shipper I've been to several times isn't a bad place to go. But recently they started reworking their shipping and receiving operations. During that time, they shut down half of their docks. So when you came in to get loaded, you'd have to wait 6-8 hours to get loaded. As of Monday, all the docks are open again. But during the time the docks were closed, they would have been slammed with bad ratings from drivers. It would take a long time before the feedback accurately reflected the company.

Any truck drivers from Kansas or at least midwest???

My favorite so far has been 565 (I think) through Huntsville, Alabama. The space and rocket museum is there. You can see a space shuttle, Saturn V rocket, and a few other things from the road.

Anyone working for millis transfer

double-quotes-start.png

Brad,

I drive for Millis. I went to school in April and have been solo for about a month now. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer.

Millis is a good company as far as I'm concerned. I've heard very few complaints from any driver I've talked with. Which school are you going to attend? I went to trenton. I can tell you what that school is like, but not much about the others.

Thanks I appreciate your reply. If you don't mind me asking, How is the pay starting out? Also what is the medical insurance like for individuals. Is it one of those high out of pocket deductables before any benefits, alot of companies are going to?

I'll start with the last question first. Yes, the insurance is that way. I'm not fond of it, but like you said, a lot of companies are doing it.

The pay per mile is on par with other companies that have newer drivers. There are several different ways to choose with pay, so I can't tell you what you'll make per mile because it depends. What I can say is that the miles are there, so my checks have been pretty good so far.

How old is too old ?

How old is too old to become a truck driver? I'm 58, healthy with no medical issues to be concerned about.

When I went through school, our instructor said his oldest student was 72. So possibly 73 is too old.

Cameras in trucks

Millis. The purpose is twofold. First, like you said, it does help with liability. Second, they can see when drivers are engaging in unsafe behavior. The number one problem in our company has been proper following distance.

Cameras in trucks

I was just reading about cameras in trucks that may be hidden are companies doing this if so shouldnt they tell you that there is one in the. Truck I guess it would not be hidden then.. I don't think that I would want to work for a company that goes behind your back and does this. There should be some kind of device now a day's that can sweep the truck for such devices audio / video. What do y'all think

I have cameras in my truck. One that faces the road and one on the driver. They are extremely obvious and not hidden at all. Also, they notify you when they are sending video to the company. I know several companies are starting to use systems like this. I haven't heard of any that use hidden cameras though.

My first real paycheck

double-quotes-start.png

This is about the 10th check that I've received since I started with the company, but most have been training pay. I ran 2487 miles my first week and 2625 the second since I've been solo.

Unfortunately, due to my mistake, one of my loads didn't make it on the check for the first week. That check wasn't much different than my training checks.

It made it on this week's check though. I haven't been this excited in a while. Finally seeing my hard work pay off. dancing.gif

Nice!! Mind if I ask what company you're with?

Yeah I'm with Millis. Medium size company that mostly runs east of the Mississippi. I ended up with 3096 miles this week, so the checks should keep getting bigger.
