Prehires before school or after?
You want to apply right now, before school. You need to cover your back, what if you spend X amount of money only to find out the hard way that no one will hire you?
Applying right now won't hurt anything and the companies won't label you as a bad apple. They completely understand. They get a hundred-plus applications everyday you're not the first one to do this. Explain your situation and if you'll get approved then they'll hire you upon graduation.
They might have you fill out another application when you're ready and graduated because the applications are only on file for a short amount of time so be sure to print a copy of your application to save it for later. You want to make sure that if you do have to apply again, that all the information matches exactly to your first application.
But go ahead and apply right now. Its the best thing to do! To save time, you can Apply For Truck Driving Jobs on our website. You fill out one application, and it sends it to all of them! This way you won't have to fill one out at a time.
Thanks, I was just reading your story & was thinking that it was cool how you persevered through all of your hardships & I was inspired & thought that I'm going to do the same, so thanks for that, thanks for the response too, I know that I could start driving school right now but I really want to get my G.E.D first or I might never get it, plus I'm nearly done with it anyway, but that basically was the school that I was talking about when I said that I wanted to get some pre-hires, the truck driving school that I talked too told me to apply to companies when I'm ready to start school because they actually won't let you start school until they helped me get a job or I have 1 myself already but like I previously said, I'm really curious now, I just didn't want to mess up future possibilities, so I think that I'm going to gather all of my information & apply to all of the companies on TruckingTruth since its fairly common practice that companies don't hold a grudge if you don't take their offer immediately, Thanks again buddy.

Prehires before school or after?
Howdy y'all, I am currently going to school to get my G.E.D until the end of this year, possibly spring & as soon as I'm done I want to enroll in a private truck driving school but I'm curious as to if I will even get hired because I have a couple of requirement situations that might make it a little complicated so I was wanting to know if it would be okay to apply now with no intentions of being hired until I'm done with both schools just to boost my morale & let me know that it is possible to pursue my dream of driving a truck or if I would have to find a different career because I don't meet the requirements & I figured that if I applied & got some pre-hires that I would be good to go, but I'm worried about getting pre-hires & ticking the companies off & ruining my possible chances in the future for working for that company by wasting their time. Do you think that it would be fine to apply now just to see if I qualify or should I wait until I'm @ least ready for truck driving school? It's all I can think about & I want to know if it's possible because I don't want to focus on getting this career for the next few months & then @ the last minute not qualifying & have to figure out a different path because I really really really want to drive a truck otr for a living. I know it's kind of a silly question but I always see the phrase 'the only stupid question is the question not asked' & I was wanting some insight from people in the industry who could possibly help or give advice, Thanks for any help...

What's the best season to start school?
I was wondering if it is better to go to a private cdl school here in Michigan in January right when the weather is getting real bad & basically start off from the beginning with winter experience or go in spring so that I would have more experience with the truck & be better prepared to tackle the next winter more acclimated to horrible weather conditions? I hear that winter is also the slow season & things start to pick back up in spring. I'm in no rush financially so thats not a factor but I do want to do what would give me the safest but best learning experience possible without setting me up with greater chances of failure, I'd really appreciate the advice from you good people, Thanks.

I have a felony robbery on my record that's 8 years old and I am desperately trying to start my career as a truck driver..I am just starting the journey so I need all the helpful info available.
Read all the company reviews & profiles on trucker truth, the guy that made this site did his homework & put on each profile the requirements & qualifications to possibly get hired, I read a few of them last night & was impressed even more with this site, but from everything that I've read on here, some companies actually might give you a chance, good luck

Question about verifiable work history
Hey Bill, Good luck at the fair! let us know how it all turned out, especially with the past work problem.
Will do, I've read on here about other people being in simular situations but I haven't found any follow up stories about how it turned out yet, if anyone knows where I can find such a thread, it would be greatly appreciated, as for me, I will keep this forum updated so that the next hopeful trucker can educate themselves on their options. I'm probably just going to make some copies of the rental properties along with the notarized statements & bring them with me for the job fair. I never had to worry about money because everything that I needed was provided for me for my services but I have a desire for paving my own way & financially providing for my fiance & myself even though she has an awesome career besides owning real estate, so I am in an awesome position as far as being able to survive comfortably during the hard first year & then some. We don't have any children either so my only responsibility is to her & she has studied this subject nearly just as much as myself & she is nothing but completely encouraging & supportive & as equally excited for me as I am for myself. She's even said that she would use some of her vacation in the future once I'm settled in with sufficient experience to come out on the road with me providing that conditions allow. Thanks once again everybody & I am like a sponge ready to soak up any advice offered to me from anybody on this forum.

Question about verifiable work history
Welcome aboard Billy!
You really won't be seeing any recruiters in person. You might if they come do a meet-n-greet at your school or something, but for the most part you'll only talk to recruiters on the phone.
Each company will handle your situation differently. Some will want a notarized letter, others may have different ideas. But you'll just have to speak with them individually to see what they'll want you to do. There is no one particular way it's done.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm going to a job fair where a lot of recruiters will be so that I can talk to them personally, I already cross referenced & every single recruiter that will attend also works hand in hand with the school that I am choosing.

Question about verifiable work history
I have been the handyman for the past 13 years for my fiance & her fathers rental properties 'anything interior, exterior, all yardwork, basically everything' & thats how I pull my weight but I don't receive compensation for it so I can not verify it for the most part other than getting statements from both of them notarized stating thats how I have been surviving for over a decade, I want to be an OTR driver & have been for quite some time now & I know that this question would probably best suited for a recruiter but I see that there are plenty of members on here who are well qualified to answer this & I was wanting your opinion on if the notarized statements would be sufficient, should they make copies of deeds to prove that they own rental properties as well or will that even be necessary? They will so thats not a problem, but I was wanting to have all my paperwork in order & go see the recruiter as prepared as possible, if you can already tell, I like to be sufficient & prepared as much as possible & have as much of my affairs in order so to not waste others time because I believe that occasionally can give me the advantage & it is also respectful, I'm 39 years old & I need to get my trucking career rolling because I promised my fiance & her father to handle the upkeep on the rental properties until they were paid off & I've finally been set free, lol. I've read every article, seen every youtube video, questioned every trucker that I've come in contact with & I know how difficult that lifestyle is & it makes me want it even more, I'm not worried about money or sitting without a load for days or not getting home for months if need be, I was asked in the second grade what I wanted to be when I grew up here in a Detroit public school & I replied that I wanted to be a Truck Driver & thats been with me ever since, 'my father also drove trucks back in the 80's & I fell in love as soon as I climbed in there'. Any advice would be greatly appreciated & Thank You in advance.

Application question
I was looking at the application for driving jobs on here & it says suspended license, yes or no & I wasn't sure if that was asking if it is suspended now or just in the past, I'm fairly sure it's for the past but I don't want to put yes & it disqualifies me because they thought my license is suspended now, lol, my license has been suspended once 13 years ago & I want to make sure that I do this right, thanks.
