Getting a job with just the CDL permit
It was suggested to me the other day to look for jobs with a local bottling company (Coke/Pepsi/etc) to get my CDL (I already have my permit). So I was just looking and sure enough I found a listing that required either a CDL or permit.
Does anyone have any knowledge about how this would work? Would they train you how to drive/pre-trip/etc?
My hubby works of OD here in TN. I am going to get my CDL to join him on the road. I will need to have my permit to go threw school with them. I do know there school is better than most as hubby went threw it 3 years ago. They pay way better than most and have good benies. But if you want to drive local look elsewhere. This is all OTR with some local but it is harder to get into the local part than the OTR. He is home every week though.

i am wondering if anyone has done the DOT medical that is 50 or over this past year. I have been told that the new testing for sleep apnea is mandatory if over a certain age. I just turned 50 and will be going for my CDL but am overweight and working on it. I have no sleep problems. But as I said I have been told they are putting you threw your paces on the DOT no matter what and making you do a sleep test.

Married and getting CDL to join hubby.
Hello ladies,
Glad I found this site. My hubby is a driver OTR for OD. After him asking me for 3 years to get mine I have decided to do it. I have a few months to go to OD school as I have one breeding left to do on my dog this next month. So when pups are gone I will enter school. This will be give me lots of time to get ready for it.
Last week we went on vacation and since we had pups to deliver we took hubby schedule route. So I got to see first hand how bad the roads are in those states. It was real neat for I have not been West before. We went all the way to San Fransisco driving in our home truck not company truck. I was surprised at how bad the roads are out of our state. Gave me a whole new perspective of what hubby complains about all the time.
Hubby drives nights so I will get days which is good for me. Night driving is not that easy anymore now that I am 50. This will be a huge change in profession for me. I have always worked in the animals field. But I have driven most of the East Coast. I look forward to getting to know you all and hope to make a few lady friends to talk with when driving. :)
I am working threw the training pages here and a few other sites. We do not have a CDL manual right now in the state as it is in print. I will be getting it as soon as it comes out. TG sites like this have learning areas.

50 and DOT medical
I know my hubby and his partner both went for the health exams at same time. Hubby does not smoke nor does partner but they both chew. When asked questions hubby answer no to sleep problem, snoring ect. He is over weight but only 42 and got his 2yr card. Partner was not so smart and answered yes on some and now is on a machine. Partner is older and they measured his neck, they did not measure hubby's neck. Same building different doctor but partner went to hubby's doctor second time for a problem with test or something. He is still on machine I have heard when on it you are not taken off it.
From looking into this for me. I might skate by but if they measure my neck now I will not pass. My BMI is 37 which is OK from my reading and will be lower when I go in. Hope I can get neck down. We are actually looking into how to do this for hubby and I am thinking lipo suction would be easiest since he does not exercise do to driving. When I get with him he will be eating better than now. So that will help some. But it is bad for many driver are getting docked till they loose weight. I see it changing when driver shortage gets real bad.
