I just got my class B to help out my boss where I work. I had my permit and had one of the straight truck drivers take me out until I was confident enough to take and pass my class B. When we went to get my fuel card set up with the company, our fleet director said even though I did all the work of getting my CDL by just doing it, I can't drive for the company because the insurance requires at least a year experience since I didn't come out of a school, and my company doesnt have a certified training program. My question is if I keep going and get my class A by going out on the road and learning with my friend on his runs, will I be able to find a company that will take me on as a new driver with no schooling certificate, or am Igoing to have to go through a school for companies to even look at me? I'm old school and believe in learning by doing, but I don't want to waste time and money by not going to school and doing everything out of my own pocket. Maybe I was born about 20-30 years too late lol. Any advice would be appreciated.
