New car carriers

I'm trying to get some feedback on the new car carrier business in general and specifically on a company called "UnitedRoad". I never thought about the new car carrier business and I was wondering about the pros and cons if any. The only thing I know about this company (and I don't know if this is common with all of them) is that they pay strictly on a percentage basis, not for miles. Can anybody tell me anything?----thanks

New car carriers

Anybody familiar with a company called Unitedroad based in Michigan? They're a new car carrier which does only that and pays on a strictly percentage basis. By what they tell me and based on my calculations a new driver can make a lot more money percentage wise than a new driver working strictly for miles. And what is your opinion of the whole new car carrier business in general? I know nothing about it.

Mexico

I'm in my third week of school and I've been listening to different recruiter speeches and I notice that a lot of companies don't go to mexico but some do. What are the pros and cons of going into Mexico?

Contradiction regarding Radar Detectors

Hello everyone....Since I'm starting school tomorrow, I've been cramming as much knowledge as I can here at TruckingTruth with all of the test pages you provide (thank you Brett) but I seem to have come upon a contradiction with which I'm confused regarding Radar Detectors. Quote from the CDL manual----The term "equipped means and includes possession"

Then you follow up with " a motorist shall not be in violation if the device is contained in a locked, opaque box or device is not in passenger compartment and is not in operation." How can you not be in violation if you are in possession?

Herein is the contradiction---the manual isn't qualifying how it is possessed, whether it's in a box or not, passenger side or not, operating or not, if you're in possession of it then, ip-so fac-to, you're equipped with it.

Can somebody clarify this for me? I don't know---it seems pretty clear.

Pre Hire letters

Hello everyone I'm feeling rather frustrated....I read Tanya Bons' article on pre hire letters and since I haven't started school yet, I thought it would be a good idea to see if I could get a few. So i called several trucking companies to ask about these and they didn't know what I was talking about. I found myself in the awkward position of having to explain to them what they were. I thought to myself, "Wait a minute....I'm talking to people in the trucking business and I have to explain to them what a pre hire letter is?....something is wrong here". Some folks would ask me if what I was looking for was a guarantee of employment with such a letter to which I said no, that's not what it is. Other folks said flatly that they don't send out such letters and never have. I don't understand this disconnect. The article seemed to imply that this was common practice in the industry but a lot of folks didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Can somebody help me out here?

Driving Team

I wondered about the team driving system...seems like a good way to keep the wheels turning. How does one go about finding someone to partner up with and what is your opinion about doing that in the first place? Pros and cons etc.

How to be paid

As a new driver, is it better to be paid a percentage or so much per mile?
