Thanks for the encouragement guys. spoke with the school I plan on attending and they're willing to get out as many apps as possible before I start they been very accommodating.

You might have to get hired on local (like a farmer's Co-op) or something like that. Some schools do help, because some companies ask schools if there are students looking for work. I had to put in a lot of apps after I was fired from my first company.

Put in an app for pre hire to werner. Got a call this morning and they wanted to ask a few questions.told them my last DUI was in 2001 and I've had a total of four with that said they said there was no way they would hire me.so I called a few other companies and got the same response. local school claims that they can get me pre-hire letters but I am very cautious.any ideas or suggestions would help but I don't see this as 2 coming to fruition.

The question derives from my sales and purchasing background. Always looking to save or make money depending on the situation. I don't know if I should pit company a's offer agains company's b.

As a newbie thinking ahead how do negotiations work, if any. I understand about getting several pre hires but when you talk to different recruiters the offers are going to be somewhat different. The reason I ask is companies offer X amount to pay for schooling, usually 150.00 per month. I have a grant from the WIA program which Obama will suck up. So, If they don't pay that back they keep the cash, Would it hurt to say you were willing to pay the students who paid out of pocket, pay me additional cents per mile? Hope this was clear enough, also anything else negotiable? Thanks, Ron

Ron, I too have applied for the WIA program a little over a week ago. I talked to my agent and he told me it could take up to 6 months to get it, if I get it. I am hoping I can because I would like to go to school before I start my career but I don't want to wait 6 months. Hope it works out for me as it did for you. Im in West Virginia. not sure if that matters. Any way congrats. Doc

Gerald, I am by no means an expert, but I've been reading these forums for months. Dui that long ago won't be a problem. I just posted on the WIA program which I just fouond out that I was approved. I don't know what state your in but the 2 local driving schools told me to constantly call your case worker to "keep your file on top". Well I'm in Nebraska which means a lower population. Which also means less workload than Houston, KC, you get what I'm saying.It took me 2 weeks here to get funded. Again, I would probably call your case worker every day to check on progress. I have seen a lot of people looking for company paid training. I just recieved a grant from the workforce investment act through the state of nebraska. It is a government grant for unemployed or underemployed individuals. I went on the nebraska unemployment website http://www.dol.nebraska.gov/ and did a little homework. Discoverecd it is for all states. Here is a link to the US Dol. .http://www.doleta.gov/usworkforce/wia/act.cfm It took me 2 weeks to get funded and I have up to 30 months to utilize the grant. Way to be proactive and kick start your career instead of sitting around whining about why the gubment isn't doing enough to help you like a lot of people these days..

I've been unemployed for a couple of years and didn't apply for unemployment insurance. But with my circumstances coming to a close it was time to start looking for a job. Discovered the WIA program on the state website. Figured I would at least put it to good use. Or i could sit around and be a professional welfare recipient. Sorry, shouldn't go there. Ron
