Advice for getting started; Amputee driver

I'm currently dealing with the red tape of FMCSA. It does take a lot of paperwork & time. I've gotta take my exam next month to get the SPE waiver. What I did was got the forms from FMCSA via mail then had them filled out between me & my doctor(or the person who did the surgery). Then I got DOT physical. After that I sent the DOT physical exam papers with the SPE forms in the mail. After that got call from local DMV to schedule a date to do the test. I can let you know what happens next month when I take it. I hope I pass it!

When to know its time to go.

Thanks guys! I do enjoy the scenery but just wanna take this with baby steps. At least I can say they do make sure the roads are clear for the most part. Do matter what season hopefully they'll send me out east. At least I can visit family & friends along the way.

When to know its time to go.

So just start driving solo. It'll be a month now come Sat. Problem is I would rather start driving in the south to avoid mountains, passes & combo of snow & ice. I guess since I got my CDL in the Pacific Northwest, my DM or the company sends me to the areas that have mountains like MT, WY, ID, ETC. Should I change terminals since mine is based in Seattle to get to avoid some of these areas or just maybe leave the company all together. I know I'm new so I know I gotta take the loads less desirable & earn my way up the ladder so to speak but a baby has to crawl before walking. Just seems like to me they would keep me away from this until I get my feet wet. What's your thoughts on this? Please be honest!

My Swift Driving Academy experience.

Thanks for the info Daniel. All the instructors in Lewiston, ID are awesome. I went there & after doing 3 weeks, passed my Pre Trip, Skills, & Road test as of yesterday! Rob & Scott helped me with the driving part. Even went down "Oh Crap Hill" which is a 18% downgrade. Looking forward to starting my new career & journey on the highway :)
