I spoke with my FM regarding this matter, she offered to move me to a different trainer right away but first she had to talk to him....you guessed it, I'm still in the same truck with a slightly different person. The reason I talked to my FM in the first place was due to the problems I previously stated and yesterday he had me attempt to drive over eagle mountain in Tennessee. Being only my 2nd day Otr the truck's engine protection system kicked in and killed the dad blasted thing on the mountain. I had no training or instructions to prepare me for this kind of adventure, so naturally it was my fault. We changed drivers right there which is good because directly after the crest of the mountain is the descent. 6% down grade with run away truck ramps. Now not that I'm chicken or yellow just that I'm inexperienced, I fully believe that I am capable of operating this rig in all conditions, I just feel I need more than 2 days experience along with some instruction prior to tackling such an obstacle. Well with that being said, he has been more informative as well as willing to answer questions. Some of the answers are refer to the manual, maybe he doesn't know those answers, but its better than the last two days. I have tried asking him all sorts of questions like y'all advised to no avail. I still can't get a conversation going. The answer to heaviest load, why does that matter, my response, because I was wondering how that compared to this one on adjusting the tandems...silence. I guess I'm just going to have to take what knowledge I am given little by little. My FM assured me that if I did not learn enough to pass my test-out after phase 2 that they would happily send me with another trainer, which makes me feel better.

Are There CDL Practice Tests Regarding Trip Planning?
I'm on board. They didn't give us any of that in school.

Only 10 more days? Bear with it man. What you are dealing with now is just the tip of the iceberg as to what you will face when you get out one the road.
My main issue is I can't learn from someone that won't answer my questions. In order for me to make it in this industry I need to learn it. Not being a whiner and maybe it will get better I will just have to see.

So I got my trainer on Friday.I drove all day, no problems with that, my problems are as follows: he keeps asking me "what the@ $!# did they teach you in school" and telling Me that they need to quit hiring guys from Fox valley, tells me to ask questions yet when I ask he makes me feel as if I am the dumbest person in the world for asking, I am now afraid to ask a question and I'm with this guy for about 10 more days. Any suggestions from y'all would be appreciated. Thanks.

My choice was Roehl Transport, mainly because of home time, but also due to their close proximity to my home so I will have more work and better home time. I urge you to do more in depth research into company sponsored trainingand also not believe the rantings of disgruntled drivers in this industry. This career is what YOU make it, you will have bad days, but that happens in any industry. Good luck in your travels and in training. Please keep turning to this site for advice and some humor. And use the high road training tools available here, they are free and help so much. Good luck
Does Roehl run in the NorthEast? I live in RI, and would love to find a good fit with a company that dispatches along the I-84 or I-95 corridors. (Think Worcester, Providence, Quonset, Groton, or New Bedford)
And pay is always a concern with me. I'm not sure what their current CPMrates are and increases.... they have a funky rewards program.
I have a buddy in school for them right now and he is going to be a regional driver with Roehl. He lives in NY so I am guessing so. As far as pay, you can't expect to hit the ground running for 40-50k with any company especially straight out of school. What they have offered me is right around iindustry average for just out of school.

Thanks guys. They called me shortly after this post and gave me a list of things to bring, as well as told me about the $25 per day advance program. I believe I will be fine now. I happy that I have made it this far and am thankful for all the advice and help from this site and will continue to turn here for further questions that I'm sure will arise

Shaun, I did loads of research when considering CDL school. I chose to go with company sponsored training mainly because of my financial situation, but also because the company training programs teach the way the company wants you to learn. Yes, you are then bound to them by contract, however you have a job already at the end of training. My choice was Roehl Transport, mainly because of home time, but also due to their close proximity to my home so I will have more work and better home time. I urge you to do more in depth research into company sponsored training and also not believe the rantings of disgruntled drivers in this industry. I am looking to start my cdltraining this summer and have been looking at this school. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with them? Also actually live pretty much next door to Coast2Coast driving school but have not found much information on them and the only reviews I could find where pretty bad so any information will help.
Thanks
This site has loads of information regarding these topics and all positive from what I have found. Try going to the truckers forum and select topics by tag and more than likely there will be revealed a whole host of conversations regarding this matter. It has been my experience that the reviews I have found on the rest of the web are from people that have the fortune that nothing that goes wrong in their life is any fault of their own. May I ask if this is a corporate sponsored training program?

Trainer troubles
I will be happy as I know my job well. I would rather spend a month in training than venture out on my own with no clue what I'm doing. As far as war stories, I can get enough of those at the truck stops, whether or not I can believe them is a story all its own. Lol
