Working as Independant Contractor

Does anyone know if a husband and wife team with a new CDL's can work for a company as Independent Contractors with out leasing a vehicle or being Owner Operators? We do not want the expenses of owning a Semi Truck but would like to drive for a company as a team and just receive 1099's at the end of the year.

My wife and I would like to get out CDL and drive for 5 years. However is it possible to drive as a team for a company and just get 1099's at the end of the year and file our own taxes? We do not need health insurance or retirement 401K's? We do not want to be owner operators, just drive and make as much money as we can in 5 years.
