Rookie driving car for the first time in a couple months.
Just finished first month of training Sunday. Xterra feels like a go cart or clown car...then I got into the Kia and it was even more bizarre felt surreal.

Best time of year for training
I doubt there are any companies that would force a female into a truck with a male trainer.

Best time of year for training
I am beginning training tomorrow and am glad to learn this time of the year. Its past spring showers and before ice.
For me, knowing that I will have learned how to drive (somewhat?) before snow and ice hits makes me more confortable.
One of the instructors at driving school suggested we stay away from specialization initially, ie tanker reefer flatbed. He said learning how to not die running dry van was enough of a challenge.

I think most people here will say they don't regret it, if for no other reason than that most here are still driving. From my understanding the mega-carriers have orientation classes of 100+ twice every week. So apparently plenty of people do regret it.
Give it a go just to keep people from giving you unasked for advice.

Avoid running out of hours or enjoy time off?
Just getting started this week myself, but I imagine in seven months the weather will decide when you drive.

McElroy had a recruiter come to our Class, If I remember correctly they are flatbed only, starting pay for fresh out of driving school was .44, but they don't pay tarp pay. Also they pay higher tuition reimbursement than most - $250 per month.
