To anyone worried about a CPAP
Don't. I dreaded having to get one but after using it for a month or so, I'm amazed at how much better I feel. I missed one night with it and then realized how much more test I'm actually getting with it. Yes, I'm trying to watch what and how much I eat, and am going to start some type of manual exercise to hopefully be more healthy, but in the mean time, the CPAP is a great friend.
That's great and I hope you keep with getting healthy. I have lost 40lbs since Dec. and feel so much healthier. Just watch your portions, stay away from the fast food and work out when u can. Also, something that helped me is to find a low calorie meal that tastes good, fills u up but helps u get thru the day. If interested, I'll share a great chicken dinner with rice thats about 400-500 calories. Also, prepare your meals and that also helps because it controls your food intake..Drink lots of water because that fills u upp too. I wish u well and pray u stay healthy.
Yeah, I'll need to get a crock pot or something. But only are those truck stop meals horrible for me, it's about 10 bucks a pop. Healthier choices plus less money spent will be nice.
So Walmart sells Chicken for a 1.99 a pound. Get 3 cans of diced or petite diced tomatoes and about 3 cups of cooked rice. Dice the chicken and brown it in a deep pot, add the diced tomato and rice. Take Mrs. Dash seasoning packets like chili, taco seasoning, etc with some water (Mrs. Dash is really good because its low in sodium and alot of flavor.) Put Ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce, Steak Sauce, Low sodium salt, Onion Powder, Basil, Oregeno Pepper and any other low sodium sauces you may like and just combine it. I then use and Ice Cream scoop to put it in a container. Like I said its about 400-500 calories. Just keep track of your sodium intake, drink water and find other solutions than soda. I drink Minute Maid Pink lemonade and G2 gatorade because they are low in calories. You just have to make a choice as a trucker to eat and drink healthy. Working out is hard to do with our profession but if u eat right, u can lose weight and be healthy. But with all that said.........allow yourself to spoil yourself with a favorite meal. I would say once a month when u meet your goal. I wish u good health and a great future

Look at companies like Old Dominion or places like that. Old Dominion may be a stretch but u never know. But construction companies pay well and u can gain exp. Probably start out at 18-19 or whatever they pay in your area. I know what it means to be new and I hope for your future. I wish u well and a lot of luck. Take care

Frustrated but thankful of my job-blessed
Hey Guys and gals I have a class b drivers license and have a good job but frustrating. In my state, I make a great hourly wage but my job is legislated by the weather. I have had a lot of weeks off from Dec till now due to the weather. I love driving my tandem truck but I am starting to think about getting into a job that is more weather proof. I have a friend that is trying to get me into a Conway, OD, etc type job. I would work the dock and then get into their driving school. They will allow me to work my present job 6 days a week, then work for them on Sunday until I can get into their driving school. What else is out there for a class b driver or should I hope and pray to get on with one of these outfits and get my class A? I think many will say the latter, lol. Would love to talk and get y'alls great advice. But remember, I am blessed and love my job. Just want stability. Thank u friends

Old guys starting a trucking career
Hi, I am 48 years old and I started a new career. You can either do OTR or local. Their are great places within the construction business that are looking for class A side dump or rear truck drivers. Pay where I am at is about 18-20 per hr starting. Basically with overtime, you are looking at a 45,000 to 50,000 yr job. What I love about my job is we go off the "pit" open to close hours. I go in at 5am and I am done at 4 to 5pm. I get 50-60 hrs per week but also can be a family man to, to my wife and dauaghter. Just make sure you save your money during the busy time (spring, summer, fall) because in the winter, you will have alot of time off due to weather. But if you want to do anything within the trucking industry, GO FOR IT!!!!!!! I love my job. Best of luck and success to you. Craig's list is a great place to look for CDL jobs.

8 Speed Truck-backing and moving forward with out jerking (Concrete Truck)
Yap, it's all going to be about clutch control. Also, stay in the lowest gear you can to initially get moving. If you have a high and a low reverse, stay in low.
But it's just going to take practice and patience. Do not be concerned that the guys are waiting on you or you're holding things up. Just put it out of your mind and focus on doing your job safely.
Practice easing onto that clutch. You'll hear the engine RPM begin to drop ever so slightly as it starts to engage. It will do that before the truck even begins to move. That's the sound you're looking for to tell you where you're at with the clutch. Then just slowly ease it out just a bit more to get rolling.
As far as backing down an incline without losing a lot of air pressure, you should be able to put it in low reverse and let out the clutch completely. Let the engine hold you back a little bit. You'll still have to use some brake, depending on how steep the grade is. But you don't want to be rolling out of gear down the hill and using the brakes to slow you down. That's going to take a lot more pumping the brakes and it's a lot more dangerous. Just let it idle in reverse and the engine will do a lot to control your speed.
I'm not sure if we answered your question completely or not. If not, just let us know. We'll be happy to elaborate.
I go back to work tmrw and will definately practice. Appreciate the answers and both of your experience. Thanx guys.

8 Speed Truck-backing and moving forward with out jerking (Concrete Truck)
First off, I hope all of you are having a great Memorial Day Weekend. To our veterans, as am I (served in the Air Force), THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the service you are and have given to our great country. God Bless You.
To my question, How do you drive forward and backward at short increments with a heavy load? Also with your foot on the brake, your foot on the clutch, and the blue button forward on the gear shift (so as not to allow it to roll back), drive forward and backward smoothly without jerking the truck and losing so much PSI from your airbrakes? Also, its hard when you are on inclines or have to go over curbs. I don't want to get the spoter/handler mad, especially with a chute in their hands.
I covet your advice, thank you.
R the transmission the same? Is there jerking problems with the big trucks compared to a concrete mixer truck?

Backing to within the 18inch stop area-test tomorrow-help
Guys thank you for all the responses. Awesome discussion. What I did was line myself up, then get out. Step off how many feet it was, then go to my fuel tank using the strap that is holding the tank to the vehicle as a marker) and step off the same number I did at the back of the truck. I put my glove down at the spot. Lined up the strap and the glove. Was perfect. My instructor gave me that advice.
Folks I wish you well and look forward to other questions and topicsw on this sight. By the way, got my license. Take care friends. Todd

One last thing after re reading this-do about 3-4 ice cream scoops in the container.
