Hey everybody, new the forum here. I was just wondering if there is any updates to the situation? I, myself, am planning on going to Roehl's CDL school in WI as well but found out that IL was a stickler for CDL transfers as far as having to retake the tests again. My recruiter said there was a change that IL has to accept road tests from another state again. Can anybody here confirm that? I'm going to talk to my local DMV tomorrow and see what they say as well.

Hey Michael, I'm in the same boat as you. I start classes on Monday at Roehl and my recruiter is also saying the IL must follow the new laws. I'm worried that they are going to have me get a WI license and then when I come home I'm screwed because everything on The IL site says they require all testing for out of state transfers.

Please let me know what your local DMV says.

When does your school start date?

I will be starting at Millis Transfer school on 7-27 and I have to get permit before I go. I already have a Class B with air brake and tanker. I believe that I only have to take the Combination test(and any other endorsements that I want) but I am not sure. DMV would not answer phone. Does anyone know if I am correct? I had a class B and only had to take the combination test to get the class A permit.

I hadn't yet talked to a recruiter for the fact that I was waiting until I got my physical. I didn't think a company would cover the costs. I appreciate the information. I will get on it now

Absolutely no reason to pay for this out of your own pocket. Roehl sends you to take the physical and they cover the cost.

The way I understood it is that I had to have my medical to get my CPL. The physical here is only $80 through my Docs office. My concern is that I have a few possible medical issues (The main one being the all-dreaded Sleep Apnea) that I want to make sure gets taken care of before hand. I don't want to waste the companies time going up there only to be sent home for medical reasons.

The clinic Roehl sent me too paid for the physical. I only received a three month medical card because I too need to have a sleep study done due to my neck size and weight. Roehl is doing the sleep study at the training when I go at the marshfield location. I guess it's the only place they can do the sleep study at. Have you actually talked to a recruiter? Mine is very nice and she has gotten back to me very quickly every time I have had a question. She called me within hours of completely my app online.

Thanks for all the info Gary! The job I'm working now doesn't afford too much free time or extra money so it looks like I'll be waiting a bit longer to get started. Anxious to get going but don't have the money for my physical or permit yet.

Not sure what a DOT physical costs around you but here one can go to the local CVS and get one for $109

Matthew, go online now and apply at Roelhl, August is not that far away. I applied in mid May. After you apply, immediately call them and speak to a recruiter. I'm working with Dylan, he's a good guy. After my initial call it took him about three weeks to get back to me. I kept calling during that time and sending an email. They are pretty busy over there, since they changed the driver pay. When I applied I did not have my permit yet.

While you waiting here's a list of things to do:

1 - Keep doing TT High Road Program - you will pass the permit test if you study this.

2 - Get a passport. I went to the post office. It took about three weeks to get it in the mail. Passport Application

2 - Get your DOT physical. DOT Medical Examiner List

3 - Apply for Hazmat and TWIC. Copy and paste the link, I couldn't get the link to work. TSA - Hazmat Endorsement Threat Assessment Program http://www.tsa.gov/stakeholders/hazmat-endorsement-threat-assessment-program While your getting fingerprinted for Hazmat you might as well get fingerprinted for TWIC also. Since you would already be there. It will cost an extra $128.00. It takes a few weeks to get these back in the mail.

4 - Take your permit test (all endorsements). I failed passenger so I opted out of school bus too.

Since I already had a class b the only permit test I had to take was the combination. I asked if I needed a passport she said just a birth certificate was needed.

Well that sucks I'm set to attend school CDL school at Roehl Transport July 13. I live in IL they said they would be issuing me a WI CDL. Found this online.

When I returned from attending a truck driving school located out-of-state, I was required to apply for a new license and pay the $60.00 fee. Why? When you leave the state and surrender your license or start the process to apply for an out-of-state license, your Illinois license become invalid. Once you return to this state, you must apply for a new license and pay all the applicable fees. This includes passing all written and road exams.

I intend to apply to Roehl as well to obtain my CDL and have recently become aware of the IL requirements to transfer an out-of-state CDL. I've got relatives in MI and I'm going to look into making that my state of residence if its easier to transfer a CDL there. Seems like a waste of money and time to come back here and spend more money on retaking all the tests

Just heard back from my recruiter at Roehl and it's what I wanted to hear.

Thank you for looking into this. That is correct. So what will happen is instead of taking the road test in Wisconsin we would have you take your road test in IL so that you get licensed in IL. We will still have you come to WI to take your class however orientation will take care of all the details of you taking your road test in IL.

I agree I emailed the recruiter. Hoping to hear something from her in the morning.

Does anyone know of any company sponsored CDL training that takes place in IL? Trying to avoid taking all the tests over including road test.
