A special "Thank You" to StarCar for some Great Advice that helped me significantly!
The way we at Stevens teach going down major mountains is this.
If Not using your Jake Brake slow down to the Highest gear in Low range. (4th on an 8 speed, 5th on a 10 speed) Use light steady pressure (7 to 10 pounds) of applied pressure to hold RPMs around 1500.
If using your Jake Brake slow down to the Lowest gear in High range. (5th on an 8 speed, 6th on a 10 speed) Use light steady pressure (7 to 10 pounds) of applied pressure to hold RPMs around 1500.
Its slow but very easy and safe.

Some information on the trucking industry.
How was Stevens schooling and what has been your overall impression of Stevens Transport?
I have been very happy at Stevens. Been here 2.5 years now. Went through the school there, through training, solo company for a very short time. Leased a truck abd then recently became a trainer. Now Im about to buy a truck and stay here a few more years at least.
All in all they are a great training company. Most do their 1 year and move on and thats fine. Its a good plave to get your start.

Some information on the trucking industry.
Thank you for the information Corporal Clegg. I am looking the CSA site over and there is some good here. I live in the D/Fw area and I am thinking of starting with FFE as they are based out of Dallas. I have also been curious about the best way to start in the industry, should I go through the carrier sponsored school and sign the one year contract or would it be better for me to find a reputable school in my area and get my CDL from them?
Nothing wrong with starting at FFE. Stevens (who I am with) is also in the Dallas area and would be a fine choice as well. As for schooling, its really up to you and what works for you. Nothing wrong with going to a company sponsored school or going private.

I dont know any companies that will make you stay out 6 months at a time. Most Over the road companies are in the 4 to 6 weeks out range. That pay is about right the first 6 months up to a year but it goes up.
The points thing is called CSA 2010 and its complicated. There is a whole Federal site about it here.

Just curious, why are you opting to purchase a different used truck instead of buying out the one you've been leasing?
Stevens lease is NOT a lease purchase, so that was not an option. One of the nice things about their lease though is that you can swap trucks anytime you want. in this 2 year lease this is my 3rd truck. Its a 2013 Peterbilt 587. And actually, you couldnt run fast enough to give me this thing. I gotta get back in a KW :P

The Best of Luck to you, in your new adventure. You seem to have what it takes to come out of it on top.
So...are ya gonna train with your new truck ?? Or just go solo....

Cool man. I hope all goes well for you. I noticed your from Nacogdoches and so I have to tell you this story.
This couple stops at a Truck Stop in Nacogdoches, TX and are in line at the Burger King. The young couple are having a little argument about how to pronounce the name of the town so when they get to the counter the girl asks the blond order taker, How do you pronounce the name of this place ... and she answers slowly "Bur" "ger" "King"
HAHAHA

Don't fall for it!
$1.065 PM + FSC aint bad, depending what the actual contract looks like. But leasing and owning isn't for everyone.
