Hello, I'm a contractor on a military base located in AZ. I have a class B CDL but many of my coworkers don't. The company I work for is now requiring everyone to get a class A CDL. We drive military vehicles only (and yes the do meet the requirements for a cdl), but we only drive military vehicles on the military base not on state, county, city roads. Are we required by law to have a CDL or are we exempt?

I used to drive in the mines and I would guess that it is probably similar for off road purpose it is not required but if for any reason you have to drive on a road you need a cdl

That makes sense there is so many differences. Would it be better for me to go through a school or just pay to test up? I have been driving for three years on several different trucks. I worked in the drilling field and drove in the mines but if that won't actually equate to experience wouldn't be better for me to basically start over?

I had hoped my X endorsement would carry over. But it makes sense that they are two different licenses.

You're experience in your head will help you, but from the DMV point of view, you'll probably need to test on everything again.
