I cook bacon in large batches in the oven at home. It generally keeps in the fridge for about 2 weeks after it's cooked. I drain off the bacon grease into a Mason jar or grease keeper (strain it first) and use it for cooking.
The great double up (let nothing go to waste) ... bacon to enjoy and the bacon flavored grease to cook with later. Best way to have fresh green beans, tablespoon of bacon grease, garlic bits, diced onion and saute. Yum!
For those Crock Pots in Winter, try these new Campbell's Slow Cooker packets Campbell's Slow Cooker Sauces Tavern Style Pot Roast
They also have Beef Stew (add Beef & Veg), Apple Bourbon Pulled Pork BBQ (add Pork) & they also do Skillet Sauces for those electric skillets. Have not tried yet since I got hooked on the Pot Roast (5 times this past winter at home).
Use the disposable Slow Cooker bags for easy clean up afterwards, just place a 3lbs. Chuck Roast, pour packet over it, put cover on and set it for 10 hours on low ... smell is amazing and the taste is real good. Don't be afraid of that 3 lbs piece of roast, after cooking it, it'll be about 2 lbs. with sauce when done. Pop a 60 second microwave bag of Uncle Ben's RIce or those Microwavable Baked Potatoes to go with it and you're styling for dinner.

My student driver landed himself in hot water. Almost fired!
Daniel gave him multiple directives on what to do and when he was going to be there and he decided not to listen.
This here, is the core of the issue.
IMO, the DM or FM should have said after Daniel informed of situation, "Daniel proceed to pick up without him, we have a customer relying on us. We'll rally back to get him another time." ... Let the "listen impaired" stay at home for a week or two or three, no pay. Each time he called asking when he's getting back to work, the DM or FM should tell him "Sorry, we're doing employee attitude laundry. We'll contact you when finished."
Meanwhile, have recruiting find another driver. Obviously, if this guy cannot listen to be at a pick up point in his own area when directed multiple times, ahead of time, how can you expect him to listen to when a delivery is due to be picked up or dropped? The dude's action sent a ripple of disruption through assignments. Over laundry after already being home for a few days? For real? SMH
Sorry, I may sound harsh, but this is something very simple and reflects the character of ones work ethic. He chose not to listen to a very simple request. Be at this location at this time TO WORK.
There are guy's & gal's out there not working that would love to listen & follow that basic request.

The Latest Turn by Turn GPS Devices
I've been eyeing up the Rand McNally TND Tablet.
It has GPS, Dash Cam (to document any non-preventable's) and will serve as a backup for my Laptop when needed, for e-mail, web browsing. Plus it has a real nice big 8 inch screen. The best prices are online around $ 499 through Walmart and a few others that did not have as glowing customer reviews.
But, as ButtonUp pointed out, I'm not going to be stuck holding a bunch of technology not receiving a signal, so definitely will have a Hard Copy Atlas with me in the truck. The new 2016 is currently on sale at 1/2 price on the Rand McNally Shop for $ 39.99 ... shipping $ 6.95 plus tax.

What Super Truckers do on their off days
If anyone likes the older trucks, the Tri-State Antique Truck Shows are always a great time and fun to walk around.
The next one is the Fall show in Winchester, Virginia on September 24-26 right off I - 81 between Winchester & Martinsburg, WV.
Not the greatest website but there's photo links to shows from past years on the page.

That jump was pretty sick and I hope that will not be my Company Trainer ... well maybe, LOL

Trucking as an economic indicator
Here is some decent news
"The latest jobs report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) yields some hopeful numbers for the trucking industry and for the economy at large. Transportation and warehousing jobs increased by 17,100 in June, and trucking jobs in particular are looking up with 7,000 new jobs. This continues a trend, with 19,000 new trucking jobs added during the past three months and 43,300 trucking jobs added over the past year."
"BEA data also supports the bright picture painted by other sources. According to an American Trucking Association (ATA) report discussed in the Journal of Commerce (JOC), annual trucking revenue hit $700 billion in 2014 for the first time ever. That represents a 3 percent increase over 2013 figures, and a 28.7 percent increase over 2009 when the effects of the recession dropped trucking income to $544.4 billion."
"With the pickup in demand, not only are jobs being added, but trucking firms have also been able to update their fleets. Orders for North American Class 8 trucks increased to 375,000 units according to the transportation research firm FTR, constituting the second-best year ever for sales."

Favorite YouTube trucker
Allie's ok, a little bit dramatic but she's fun to watch.
I really like and learn a lot from Dale Clay, more valuable video's as a new guy in my opinion.
