Getting exercise as a truck driver
I'm a car hauler so I get all my cardio by jogging to get my cars in the yard, I get to the gym at least 3 times a week. but I found that eating healthy while on the road can suck. so I'm using an all natural super food system that gives me all the nutrition I need fills me while driving and it give me a butt load of energy, I lost 62lbs in four month before I started driving. I also prep simple healthy meals to take with me when I'm out for 6 days or so. I also use the tension bands to work out with.
George
How many of you work out? Do you walk around the truck stops? Just wondering when and where

Another similar thread was started recently which will contain much of your answers HERE
But basically, these trucks have multiple batteries and strong charging systems and battery tenders usually, so you should never need a jump start unless something is very wrong with the truck or the batteries are much too old and proper maintenance has not been done. In either case you'll be needing repairs or full battery replacement at that point which your company should provide, but in any case having a battery jumper box or even jumper cables will almost be of no use to you other than giving a jump to someone else in a broken down 4-wheeler (car or light truck). I would still keep a pair of good jumper cables on board myself, but mainly just so I can be a good Samaritan if someone breaks down and I know I can help.
Thank thats what i figured. thanks for the input..

That's awesome. I'm excited for you. Do you find car hauling fun? I've done some personal car hauling, but never on a trucker's scale. Does it pay well?
I love it, its fun so far, you bust your but for an hour or so then get in the truck and drive, and their isn't a tight time frame to stick too. But that could also be that 1 its all new to me. lol the truth is you know when your not going to like something. And i like this I'm sure ill have days that it will suck and the weather is poop. but then again I've been thru worse. The pay isn't bad I'm working with an OO that it contracted with Fleet car services, so we get all the GM cars going to the dealers and car rentals. So i get 30% of each load. figure if i stay local i can do up to 4 or 5 loads and thats about 100$ per load in a day give and take a few $. this is the busy season for us I'm told with the rental one of them is expecting up 7000 car by yr end , I'm told will see. The best part is i work when i want. meaning if i want to start at 6AM or 12 noon or just pull one load or as many as i can in my 12hrs.

Yes get cut loose this week, Car hauling. My trainer said he has never seen anyone pick up the basics of driving and loading cars, strapping them and all the paper work that goes with in such a short time, 3 weeks. I guess my attention to detail and discipline from being 22yrs in the military paid off. Im really enjoying this type of work. The best part is i work my own schedule.
Not bad from Aircraft mechanic to car hauler.

If they are training you this is a common thing, and typically is for 2 years. If you're worried about it then don't sign it. Its just a way to make sure you don't get trained then go work for a competitor. And as others have stated its rather rare for anyone to take you to court over it even if you did get trained at one place then go work for another.
Phil
I was told that the OO had trained a driver he learned the car hauling biz. Then he went bought his own truck and got hired as an OO by the same company that the OO he trained with in the same terminal. I'm learning that the companies don't care about anything but the $$$$$$. I'm good I'm not being asked to sign one the OO is my wife cousin. lol

I have a question on non compete agreement. Can an owner operator have a new driver sign a non compete agreement for a specific amount of time? I have heard of drivers getting trained i.e. car hauling then getting their own truck to go work for the same company that the owner Operator they were working for was contracted with. Insight on this?
Thank you
