Discuss your problems about wrong driver's directions and how to avoid them.

Beth, thanks for explanation. What about you? How do you usually find right driver's directions?

I'm not a driver yet, just somebody who's growled at way too many phones doing strange things...like whistling like a tea kettle.

Would you like to tell me more?)

Many truck drivers are using maps in order to find directions or GPS. I heard that Rand McNally tablet is pretty expensive. But, there always is a way. Don't you try to browse any other applications on your phone? Some of them are free.

If he doesn't have a smart phone, he doesn't have other applications on his phone that weren't preloaded by the company he bought it from.

I have a few place that is listed as "Drivers Direction" and it says DO NOT CALL CUST. only 1 time has that been wrong.. with current company.

Luck enough as drivers for TA we try to update direction when need for other drivers...

that being said I use my maps and navigo (company GPS) and of course a back up. Been thinking about getting a Rand McNally tablet. does anyone have much info on it .. is it worth the $$$$

Do you ever use any online map to find directions?

One of the best tools is the satellite imagery in Google Maps. Not only can you use it to verify directions but you can also scope out the place. Often you can figure out which entrance is the truck entrance, where the docks are, whether or not there is enough room to park overnight, and a whole lot more.

Thanks, Brett for your opinion. The method you described above will be useful for truckers, especially for rookies. Do you always use satellite imagery in Google Maps to find directions? It sounds like great thing; there is everything what truck driver needs. Have you heard about Loadingspot? It’s database for shippers/receivers in U.S. You could find there truck drivers’ reviews and experiences they are sharing there. Just check out www.loadingspot. com Brett, let me know your thoughts 

Funny, I'm reading this sitting here waiting to be unloaded, and not trusting the gps I called the 90 and asked for directions. Was told to get off on exit 141 and two lefts. There was no exit 141...and 20 miles to do a u turn. I guess the map is still the only one who doesn't lie lol.

Yep, map is great thing. Do you ever use any online map to find directions? Today, when innovations are raised day by day we have a variety of other ways to make our life less stressful, particularly in trucking industry. What is your opinion about?

No, it was some frozen food place. It wasn't technically in Chicago probably. It was right near the BNSF rail yard, which oddly enough my gps takes me to flawlessly...

What Frozen food place do you mean? Maybe, Smith Frozen Foods, Inc in Weston, OR. Btw, check out http://loadingspot.com/company/smith-frozen-foods-inc-97886 Is it you are talking about?

Very common for the address to be to the front door of the company, not to the shipping/receiving area and the two can be on different streets; best policy is to call the customer; often there will be a recording that gives directions; unfortunately, it's not unusual that the phone number is also wrong or to the front desk which is closed after normal business hours; welcome to trucking!

There is a US company – LoadingSpot. It was created for truck drivers, shippers/receivers and others interested people. It is a database with all required information, including companies’ phone numbers, addresses. Active users share their experience and also write reviews there: www.loadingspot.com Did you hear about?

Have you ever been incorrectly informed about drivers’ directions, you have to deliver your load to?
