Too old to start driving career??
I start my company paid training on monday and I'm 52. I use to drive a 24' straight truck up in the Rocky Mtns years ago before I started a career in the IT industry. I always missed driving so going into Trucking seemed like the right choice for me as a second career. Its good to all the "seasoned" people getting into this industry.

Start Training with Roehl Flatbed division on Mon 9/14
So you are training here in phx? Question: did mvd make you show your social security card to get your cdl permit? I can find the thing but I can find my original birth certificate. I can get a new ssn card, and I plan to first thing tomorrow morning, but it takes like 10 days to receive it. I'm supposed to start training at the roehl phx terminal on the 21st. Hope this does not delay me.
Good luck.
Pitmaster,
Yes I will be training in Phx, as far as the MVD question, yes I did have to provide both SS card and original birth certificate as well as my DOT medical card. If you just requested the birth certificate and it's gonna take 10 days you probably will not make it to start on 9/21. They will just have you start the next available class (probably 9/28) I got my CDL permit on 9/3 but was not able to start till 9/14 due to the 9/7 class was full so if that happens it may be delayed an additional week.
I will try to keep this post updated on my progress through the training and once on the road when I can. If things go smooth with you getting into training in the next couple of weeks, I hope I see you there!

About Roehl's CDL training in Phoenix, AZ. Have some specific questions. Please help.
Hi guys I need some quick info regarding the program in Phoenix specifically.
Has anyone or anyone you know attended? And did Roehl provide the room and/or meals with attending their CDL school?
Does anyone know their run vs home time for the phoenix terminal?
I have heard/read two distinctly deferent things than what I'm being told by Roehl, even their website info and their own posted youtube videos contradict this info. So any first hand info from someone that has been involved in the program would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hi GWS,
I just signed on with Roehl in Phoenix and will be starting their training program next month. I am going to be with their flatbed division. From what I was told from the agreement paperwork they sent me was that they do provide room and meals (lunch & dinner) while attending their CDL training. The run vs hometime is 18 days out and 4 days off.
I hope this helps out some

Next ....
Tyler, I start training tomorrow also and can relate to all your worries and anxieties in starting this new path to a life on the road. Just rest assured you are not alone. As you have already discovered this site is full of understanding and advise from a great group of ppl who have all "been there done that" and are willing to help through it all. Being in the same position as you, just starting out and nervous about all the challenges ahead, I am also very excited and know that just being steadfast and learn as much as I can it will all come to be. Now it will not be easy but any satisfying career never is. As long as we don't give up and meet every challenge with 100% of what we can, then it shouldn't be to long when you & I will be the experienced ones giving understanding and advise from our experiences to more ppl just starting out in the trucking industry.
Good luck on Monday and let us know how it goes.
