What did you do before becoming a truck driver?
I guess coming out of my background and going into the trucking industry would be a completely life changing event. I never worked in any big boys jobs (construction, rigging, etc.) I was first an EMT for 2 years and then I worked as a pharmacy technician for about 3 years. Finally I decided I had a enough working in the healthcare industry and wanted to try something new. I've always has a passion for trucks and big rigs. Watching a semi hauling through a highway always catches my attention and respect for those drivers. Most of all, why I want to go into trucking is the opportunity for travel and adventures. Just being out in the open road gives you that freedom and relaxation to enjoy.

Duration of license suspension different between states and federal
Hey guys and gals. I'm currently studying for my CDL general knowledge exam. I'm getting my CDP from New York State so I am studying from the NYS CDL manual but also studying a lot from here at Trucking Truth. As for violations and suspensions go, the duration for these stated in the NYS manual are different from those stated in the High Road Training Program. NYS manual states minimum 3 months suspension for first violation of out-of-service order and Trucking Truth states a minimum of 6 months. Is the minimum stated here at Trucking Truth based on federal regulations? I'm planning to operate interstate and was wondering as well if drivers operating interstate follow a different set of regulations (federal) than those who operate intrastate. Last but not least definitely, I would like to thank Brett Aquilla and his passion and desire to teach for starting out this website as well as everyone else who provided a wealth of information on this website!

Passenger endorsement
Hi. I am planning to get my CDL with a passenger endorsement. If I will be doing a PTI and skills test on a truck, do I still need to perform a separate one on a coach bus just to obtain the passenger endorsement (or is just the written test needed for that matter?) Also in the future if I do have my passenger endorsement, can I operate a coach bus and an 18-wheeler intermittently with my class-A CDL? (I understand that most CDL holders who operate a coach bus only require a Class-B CDL with other associated endorsements).
