It's been a full week since I updated. Today is 10/16/15(part1 to catch up this last week), one more day to end week two. We were finally allowed of the track this past week, and for those haven't driven a semi before, **** gets real really quick on the streets. We've been around the industrial area, but it seems the trainer in our truck though I was ready enough that on my first day driving he got me on to the interstate. That went fairly well as has all week. All I can say is know your gear to speeds and gear to rpms. Also, adjust your seats. First day of driving my seat was not set up properly and I hyperextended my left knee. Everything is fine with clutching and driving but it hurts to walk

Day 5 10/09/15 Spent all day on the track. I did fairly well on parallel parking. Had some trouble with shifting my first 4 laps around the track. One of the trainers was on board, after a couple of laps. Gave me some great feedback. (This is dine accelerated training so the trainers don't mess around, so pay attention to what they say and take it to heart and apply it. Don't get butt-hurt.) next for laps on my own I hit it out of the ballpark on both up & down shifting. Got home too Damn tired for anything else.

i start with stevens transport 10/19/15 Dallas tx i am from ny.got my cdl recently. Question i asked no answer yet from stevens where are there drop yards near ny? as hometime i see columbus ohio shows the closest

I don't know much about where they have drop yards. From the research I did, they contract with places all over the country so I'm sure you're bound to find one just about any major city, but I wouldn't have specifics on that

Day 4 10/08/15 Still studying Signed promissory note for student loan $5995, 3 years @ 18% Apr However if I pay it off during the first year it's only $3,600 It's a 1 year contract once you're hired on and there is a non-compete clause for 1 year as of hire date, even if you pay off the tuition before the 1st year Not a big deal for me as I need the job. I'd rather be working than being unemployed. Bills gotta get paid, right? Agree that, I got some track time. As everyone else, having problems getting used to double shifting and down shifting. They say it's like dancing, but I'm a horrible dancer, so there's that.more track time tomorrow. Oh yeah, all written DMV tests passed and done with. Time to practice shifting. Any tips?

Day 3 10/07/05 Took a quiz on the FMCSR guidebook and on basic critical thinking and math school skills. Aced it. Got our first t-check for meals or whatever you want to use it for. Used the money to pay for The DMV exams I needed to take. I already had my permit, so the 3 exams I had to take were the General (ch 2 & 3), pre-trip(ch 11) & air brakes(ch 5). Passed all 3. That allows me to begin driving on the Stevens track. Rather uneventful day other than the testing. Study your handbook from the DMV! All the question are from info directly from it. Get your permit before starting class. Less info to try to cram.

Day 2, 10/06/15 6 a.m. To 8p.m. All morning long you're taking care of your DOT physical. Doesn't matter if you already have a DOT, they will do their own physical and their requirements seem to be a little stricter than just minimum DOT requirements(neck measurements?, 3 month blood glucose,a1c, for diabetics is 9 DOT max is 10. Drug test is UA. They don't give you your actual medical card until graduation, in the meantime you get a copy. Once your done with medical exams, you're studying and reading to get ready for your DMV theory/written tests on Wednesday. You're reviewing until 8 pm and yes there was free pizza

Day at Stevens school Got picked up by sortie shortly after 6am Most of the morning was spent filling out paperwork. Pay close attention to directions as they move fast on filling out paperwork and don't like to repair themselves. Took a quick tour of facilities Be sure to have already read up on the chapters assigned to you in the CDL handbook prior to arrival as there are some quizzes and reviewing you'll be doing on the first day. Already had homework assigned (quizzes) to compete for Tuesday and Wednesday. We were told that they will be taking us to the DMV Wednesday(day 3) to take the written exams. The sooner you get all 5 passed the more time on the range we'll have. Day 2 is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Medical exams and if you don't already have a CDL it will be a study group(mandatory) to prepare for exams. Free pizza they said. Off to study and to sleep.

10/04/15 Checked into the Crossland Economy Studios in Mesquite, TX after being picked up by the Stevens Shuttle at the bus station. Although, I think we were supposed to be picked up by hotel shuttle, as there were other drivers heading to different location. Either way, made it here. It is a double occupancy room. My roommate is also from El Paso and we were on the same bus, so that's cool. Big Lots is within walking distance and is a good place to pick up some basic groceries and necessities. Gotta go for now, gotta be at the lobby at 6 a.m. to be shuttle to Stevens for class at 7 a.m.

I guess I freaked my recruiters out a little bit today, Friday 10/02. I slept in a little, let the phone ring every time they called(about 5 times). The Friday before class they do a final verification to confirm that I will be making the trip, the ask that I confirm information to make sure I have it all down. I finally called them and confirmed I would be attending. Not much else other than still packing. Will catch the greyhound bus Saturday night and will be on a 14 hour ride.

Good luck with your training. In 3 weeks I'll be attending Roadmaster driving school in Tampa. Hopefully I'll be hired soon thereafter by one of many companies I'll be applying for. Keep us updated on Stevens transport and how the company operates. The two companies I'm mostly interested in at this point are prime and werner. Are you excited to get out and start making money? Also, will you be a team driver or solo?

I'm excited, a little apprehensive, but excited nonetheless. After my training is complete I plan on driving solo.

As for how the company operates, so far the recruiting process has been smooth. Completed my application online and it went quick from there. I've talked to my recruiter about 5 or 6 times already. And they keep in touch to make sure I'll be following thru I guess.
