Thanks for helping me out, even though I obviously didn't word my question very well. :)
I'll definitely contact you if I have any questions about Texas testing.

James, so you were driving before you got your license? If so, do you have any tickets for driving without a license during that time, or any other type of traffic violations?
I had a permit, but not a license

Howdy again!
I've started to look over job applications, and they all ask to provide a three to five year driver history. It doesn't actually have to be that long though does it? I didn't start driving until eighteen and I got my license a year ago. Is that going to be a problem?
Thanks, James

Okay, so let me give you a brief rundown of my situation. I've already started the CDL training program on this site, I'm 41% through it. I've mostly been working on that and haven't spent a lot of time decided on a school or a company yet. I'll be turning 21 at the end of July. Could I start apply for companies now? or do I have to wait until I'm actually 21? I'd like to head off to a CDL school as soon as I can once I turn 21. Also I have more than enough money saved up to pay for a school so the only thing holding me back right now is my age.
Thanks, James

Question about Logbook Off-Duty Time - Self Published Author
If you log yourself on duty for that then you would be shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to maximizing your hours for driving.
That is why I was worried. But I'm glad my assumption was correct.

Question about Logbook Off-Duty Time - Self Published Author
Howdy!
I've been going through the logbook sections of the CDL training program, and it states that off duty time is : If you are not doing any work (paid or unpaid) for a motor carrier, and you are not doing any paid work for anyone else, you may record the time as off duty time.
So I am a self-published author ... I don't get paid to write, but eventually when I publish my books I get paid, so would I have to log any writing time as On Duty? I'm kind of assuming the answer is no, but I just wanted to get some feedback.

Thanks! In high school I was set to join the military until I talked to a recruiter and learned that I couldn't join with asthma. So I'm glad that I can at least live this dream still. Looking forward to starting trucking!

Self-Published Author Doing Research
Howdy,
I have found this site a tremendous help to me so far. I am working on a fiction series that revolves around a small trucking company. I have done a little over half of the High Road Training Program for two reasons one for research and two because I am considering a career in trucking myself.
Anyway, I am considering having one of the books in the series take place in Canada on the ice roads, but I can't find any real information about ice road trucking. All I have been able to find is stuff about the "reality" tv show. Which obviously has little basis in actual reality. Does anyone here have any experience or could point me to another source for research?
Thanks, James
