I have had a CDL-C with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements of a number of years for the delivery of Liquid Oxygen on a placarded vehicle. In November 2015 I obtained a CDL-A and added Doubles/Triples to my endorsements. I have near perfect MVR and have survived without penalty many DOT checks. My issue right now is that I have been on 35mg of Venlafaxine/ Effexor and Werner denied me employment based on their Physician's decision not to let me drive based on possibly drug side effects. I have no verifiable tractor trailer experience and even though I have been a delivery driver with a CDL for many years I cannot get employed as a driver since my last job. I am 43 years old and am currently attempting to make some decisions as to where I need to take my life. This sucks!

Considering a career in driving, why/why not/feasible?
I realize this is almost a two year old post yet I was curious what you ended up doing with your life. I obtained my CDL-A in 2015 and have not been able to find a company to hire me while on a prescription of Venlafaxine/Effexor.

Werner denied employment due to medications prescribed.
I need a job but cannot get acceptance due to no experience and a prescription of Velafaxine/ Effexor. I completed Truck Driving school in November 2015. Subsequently, I applied and started orientation with Werner Transportation. They informed me they would not let me drive while being prescribed Venlafaxine/Effexor. I have worked under a CDL-C for three years delivering Liquid o2 and never had a problem. I now have a CDL-A with Hazmat, Doubles and Triples and Tanker endorsements and cannot get a job as far as I know! I am currently working to end use of this prescription yet it is going to take a long long time. If I had been told this would have been an issue of employment i would have gone to school for something other than truck driving. Now, I am broke, my son and I live with my parents and want to work. It seems here in Texas at least not even dump truck jobs will hire without tractor trailer experience. I was ready to work and now I am stuck back to square one. I was told that Stevens Transportation also use their own doctors so Werner and Stevens are not going to take me. Are there any companies that will go off my State Medical card or is this going to be a field I will simply have to forget until I can get off Velafaxine/ Effexor.

Medications your allowed to take?
FEDERAL LAWS SUPERSEDE EVERYTHING!!!
Werner will not let me drive while taking Effexor. I am desperately fighting to kick this drug and it is egregiously terrifying as it is causing panic attacks of which I have never experienced ever in my life. I wish I could get them to allow it while I try to kick. I need to have a job and right now my life is on hold as I am unemployed. They are being decent patiently waiting for me to kick the drug still ot ****es me off as the fear is that I "might" get drowsy. I have been a driver for 8 years with a damn near perfect MVR while taking this damn drug. My family is suffering and I don't know what to do. I can't make a career out attending orientations and ending up unemployed after each.

I am currently fighting to kick the drug Effexor. This is one of the hardest things I have done as the withdrawal symptoms are egregiously terrifying. One of many reasons I am kicking the prescribed drug is because Werner will not let me drive for them while taking the medication. I am unaware of any list yet they are concerned that I "might" become drowsy as a side effect of the medication. I NEED to be employed badly. I have every endorsement on my CDL-A and have had the Tanker and Hazmat on a CDL-C license for four years. Werner has been decent enough to give me time to quit my meds but if I could get a new driver entry level career started elsewhere I would be gracious. I most certainly do not wish to have a short term career of attending paid orientations that end with unemployment when they won't give me a route after the medical exam. I never had an issue obtaining a medical card in the past yet the Doctor at Werner said, "No!"

Question on Pay
If a driver hauls 2600 miles on average a week with 1 year of experience plus having a squeaky clean record HOW MUCH on average per week should he or she make before taxes?
I run this and more every week but my checks if not for a 1K guarantee would be less than 1K before deductions.
