Any Owner Ops working in the Oil Fields?
I've been thinking about working in the oil field for a while. I want to start with a bottom drop and move to a pneumatic sand hauler. I was wondering if someone could share the specs for the truck I'll need.
I'm thinking older truck with higher miles and low cost so I can beat the **** out of it.
Can I squeeze a hightop into the pneumatic fill station? I'm worried about clearance. Should I get a mid roof? Should I spec manual 18 or will a manual 13 work?
What is the maintenance like on the truck? How often should I do a pm?
Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Legal Recourse for Shipper/broker Holding Your Trailer Hostage
I was wondering if anyone has ever dealt with or knows what the legal recourse is for the following scenario:
Driver picks up load to be delivered next day at x time. Driver arrives and load wasn't supposed to be picked up for several more days (somebody, either shipper or broker makes a clerical error) Broker tells you there is nothing they can do and refuses to pay you to take the load back and cannot get you offloaded anywhere else. Broker expects you to hold the load in your trailer for multiple days with a measly layover pay (losing you thousands of dollars).
Is there an actual legal recourse? Does anyone have contract law on this? Have you experienced it?

What should I be expecting to gross each week? I've been averaging about 7500-9000 per week. This seems terrible to me, but I'm guessing it might be the most I can expect in this market. Is that average about the best I can expect?

Hello all. I've been trucking since 2016, but I recently started brokering my own loads. I know we are in a slow market, but I've been noticing that even when in hot zones with high L/T ratios, brokers are not willing to pay anywhere close to the 15 day average spot rates. I'm well practiced now at negotiating, but brokers just don't want to move. I keep seeing others come along and snatch up loads for absurdly cheap prices. I'm guessing the ones who are biding cheap freight are the larger companies that can afford to screw the rest of the smaller guys? Anyway, I'm barely averaging 2.70 per mile right now at a time when fuel has jumped to 4-7 dollars per gallon. Could someone who's been in the market for a while help me to understand what's happening here?

2016. Thx for answering my question instead of telling me how silly i am to be an owner op. Some of these folks think their own experience is the only experience and can sound quite condescending.
What year is it?
I bought my 2015 volvo with 400k for 60k. That price for a cascadia sounds a little high especially now since the market is flooded with trucks.

For future responders please do not try to convince me that going into business for myself is about idea. I did not ask whether or not I should go into business for myself. My question was do you think the truck I'm looking at is worth the money. To counsel someone not to start a trucking business as an owner op without knowing the details of their situation is irresponsible, arrogant, and condescending.

The oil field is in Texas. The market appears to be really good down there right now. The terrain is flat but the roads are terrible. I don't know if I can get away with a hightop or if I need a lower roof. A blower is required (not vacuum). I'm aware of the volatility. I have back up plans in place to offset that.
