Hi, Im Rodney slone, I joined the Army when I was 18.I joined as an 88M aka Motor transport operator. I went to Military truck driving school in ft. Leonard wood Missouri for 9 weeks in 2007. I got stationed over in Germany where I hauled for my company 70th transportation group until being deployed to Iraq. My Deployment lasted 15 months and during that time I drove tractors (915), 5 tons, het's(Heavy Equipment Transport vehicle), Wrecker, 40 foot trailers, lowboys, asv's(all security Vehicle), M-rap (Mine resistant ambush protectant vehicle)and many more I had a black sea scroll looking military drivers license. I hauled food, ammo, vehicles, tanks, water, miscellaneous, and personnel. After my deployment I came back to Germany where I got back behind the wheel of a good ol tractor 915 Detroit diesel inline 6-daycab,and 40 foot flatbed trailer. I hauled canex, ammo, food and vehicles. After my 4 years was up ETS'd( Ended term of Service)Honorable Discharge and flew back home. I immediately began college under the G.I bill following a degree in political science, wanting to become a Intelligence Analyst or lobbyist. I finished 3 years of school in Just under 2 years and the V.A screwed me on a situation not allowing me to return to school. The G.I bill was my only source of income as I was a full time student. Having a family to support and needing a Job, I decided to go back to what I know and love. Truck driving. I studied and went to the BMV passed all my class-A and endorsement tests the first time. Now I must go do a pretrip and Driving test. I hope an employer finds room to hire me because I severely need it! My experience is in driving the vehicles, but it's definitely a 180 to civilian driving from Military driving.

Military veteran 88m (Motor Transport Operator) Now going to drive for the civillian sector.
I do and I have my 9 week course diploma. In some states they grandfather in ,but here in Ohio they do not honor grandfather laws. So I've already gotten my CDL class A temp with all endorsements and I'll be headed to do my pre trip and driving skills test next. Confident I'll pass, I just hope there are companies out here that will honor my experience.

Hi Guys and Gals I went to Military truck driving course in FT. Leonard wood Missouri. I have lots of experience driving Heavy equipment transport vehicle with lowboy trailer, and 915 Detroit diesel Inline 6- Day cab using 40 foot flatbed's. I got out of the military roughly 2 years ago and have been in College. Now I'm in need of some income and have to go back to what I know and love. Trucking. I still have to take my pre trip and driving exam and I am noticing more and more how different things are driving civilian. If there are any of you old vet drivers that turned civilian or drivers in general that are willing to give a perspective. I would appreciate if you could share your experience being tested and what to look for. Thanx a lot in advance. Rodney Slone.

My driving course was a 9.5 week course very in-depth, Im seeing guys now talk about a 4 week schooling that's only geared towards passing the cdl test. Good for me because this test is going to be a warm piece of cake. More importantly though what do you think will happen when I fill out my application and provide my log/trip sheets with all my miles? I will have a new CDL, but Im experienced behind the wheel. In what regard will my experience not matter? Pay? New training? Thanx a lot for your feedback, Im trying to be prepared and gain some perspective.
