I'm just an old hand. I started in trucking in 1973, got out in 1982 went to work working on trucks and heavy equipment, wife at the time wanted me off the road.
Started back driving but this time driving bus because I enjoy the interaction with the people. It's not about the money, it's about staying active, I'm only 75 years old, in good health, and enjoying the heck out of life. Have considered going OTR again but some of the things I see going on these days with some of the young drives does bother me.

I decided to go back to work, I'm only 75 now, but went back some time back. What I got into was tour bus, at first it was just a job, paid ok. What I didn't realize was the fun I would have, the people I would meet. The big plus was the tips. Many times I made more on tips than I did from my employer. The Japanese are the best tippers by far. Now if you don't like dealing with people then this isn't for you. Most companies want people that have a clean background, and good driving record as with most employers. One thing tour companies will not accept anyone that has had morals crimes ever.
Oh well, something to consider, especially for us old hands.

Seems we all have a different story. I’m a retired truck technician, I also drove truck OTR for twelve years. Wife and kids wanted dad home, so I went back to working on trucks, (grew up in a shop). I retired last year with a decent pension, but I always wanted to get back on the road. Wife passed away, kids are all grown up and gone, and I’m bored. I’m 67 years old, but doctors say I’m in excellent health, I run two to three miles a day, work out, and eat right. I have never done drugs, clean DMV and no criminal record, Never had a DUI because I don’t drink.
Most companies I talk to aren’t interested due to age I believe, of course they can’t say that but reality is most don’t want old guys. What I’m looking for is a company that insists on running legal, I would hate paying for tickets. I don’t really care how long I’m out as long as I can get home every couple of months. I will run team but must be with someone that is clean and don’t smoke. Any constructive thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Seeking Advice: CDL Training Opportunities with a Past Misdemeanor and Specific Testing Requirements
That misdemeanor is a serious one for the trucking industry. Also wanting to avoid a hair sample test is another red flag. Professional driving is an industry that demands people that are good drivers, have proper attitude, patience, and solid work ethic.
I honestly don't know what to tell you other than it sounds like you have two strikes against you and that isn't good.
