Engine brakes on 2016 peterbilt 579
If you have the cruise control on, they won't engage until you step on the brake pedal. If you turn the cruise off, they should come on as soon as you let off the throttle. My 579 ('14) is a 10 speed, that might make a difference.

Is PAM a good choice for female
Relax. I drove for PAM for almost 4 years. They are just like ANY other company out there. Just want their freight picked up and delivered. I got to do a lot of different stuff while I was there( trainer, drove the Arkansas truck rodeo, did some contract work for FedEx) I assure you this, if you just do the job you are hired to do, you will be fine. I had a good time working for them , made good money and if I wanted to run the whole 48 again I would probably hire back on.

Check Your Loads Coming From Mexico
Funny, I just picked up a Mexico load from Lorado today. In fact, I'm currently at the Flying J here.
I'll be sure to triple check everything. But honestly, with the way that I drive I don't think they'll survive the ride if there is anyone in there.
Are the taco trucks still parked on the road between the truck stops?

For those considereing driving for PAM as a new driver (going thru Driver Solutions)
Drove for PAM for almost 4 years. Never had a problem with them, good miles if you were willing to run, etc. I was a trainer there for the last 2.5 years I worked there. They have been talking about this team driving for new drivers since 2009. It has a lot to do with how you perform during your training, they always asked us ( the trainer ) if we thought they could handle solo driving instead of teaming up.

Can you go straight to solo driver with 1 year experience?
From what I understand, if you are keeping a log book, that is OTR experience.I'm not sure how Prime sees it. I did 3 years with them, lot tougher than what I do now. It did teach me how to plan trips and locate addresses. There is nothing like trying to find a dark restaurant for a key drop in a snowstorm, IMO.
