YES !! A head wind when the winding road makes it thus. Ohh it will be a tail wind going through that exit ramp. I guarantee you that @ the same ramp it will also be 90 degress to your rig. Dare I say the same with a quartering wind.

How about 6 your driving along a 1 lane road in the dark, with no shoulders . The forecast is for a front quartering cross wind at 25 with gusts to 45 mph with a chance of snow showers. You crest a little hill and drop down into a valley all of a sudden you in fog so thick you can't see past your your hood, you can't see the road it's covered in snow and ice.

At this point, I would calmly key in the qualcomm ...."its been fun, but I quit. Your rig is at exit 46 Interstate 50, come and get it the key is in the overhead compartment, " I'm out". lol

This light ( in southern Wisconsin) has to take at least twice as long.

I tought maybe at certain times of the day early in the morning its just set to like you say a ridiculously long time but can be overriden with pressing the walk thingy.

Put them in order from what you would least like to happen to you.

1. Winter driving over very icy roads.

2. Rush order run where you find yourself face to face with a low overpass.

3. Broke down on the side of Highway in the middle of the night in freezing temps, no heat or sleeper berth.

4. On a wide open expanse shoulderless two-lane Highway with 70+ mph winds

Defensive driving is the key I think. Expect that the driver in front of you will eventually slam on his brakes for that squirrel. Cushions cushions cushions is what its really all about. Make it a habit of stopping 15+ feet behind the vehicle in front of you even if your bobtailing.

Also how you drive in your personal vehicle is important too.

And straight from the FMCSA...."If you are driving below 40 mph, you should leave at least one second for every 10 feet of vehicle length. For a typical tractor-trailer, this results in 4 seconds between you and the leading vehicle. For speeds over 40 mph, you should leave one additional second.

I've used those pallet pullers a few times already. But I have to also be loaded with freight at these places without a dock meaning of course that their freight will have to be on the tail, meaning also that whatever my next stop is, now that FL driver has to move that freight on the tail to get to his.

Umm, why isn't the freight loaded according to drop off locations?

Indeed it is. We load from furthest north to furthest south. But we certainly do not have a regulated pre-planned route that we must follow or a load plan that we must follow. The freight is only metal finishings and restorings so no need for very much regulating.

Thanks for your info. I took over this route from another driver and in training we never used a pallet jack for whatever reason. Again much of my freight is too much for the pallet jack to handle, tried it a couple of times- skid just cracks.

i'll be fine though, like a few of the FL drivers have said; I just have to switch days and give them a break now and again by asking other FL drivers to move this or that on other days.
