Trying to start career in trucking

I've wanted to drive trucks for a long time with a class A CDL license, but the time was never right until now. But, if I am being honest, I am having a hard time finding someone to hire me. I did just graduate from a school, but unfortunately I have a past I am not too proud of. I'm also not above admitting my mistakes. So, if any of you know companies willing to hire a felon (drug charge), as well as someone with a couple of misdemeanors, all at least 9 years old now, please let me know.

I am being turned down quite a bit which wouldn't normally worry me, however, as someone who is in recovery (8 yrs.), from an addiction and has worked her ass off to get her life back, it gets redundant having these doors slammed in your face. I know that today I would be an ASSET to ANY company, I just can't get them to believe it.

IDEAS anyone?

CRST

Thanks to all of you for the replies and yes Brett Aquila, you had it right, I have a Class A CDL with an E restriction, which is automatic only. But I am finding more and more companies willing to help thanks to all of you.

CRST

That part I am understanding, at least 10 months. I am wondering since I am just starting, and I have this restriction, would it be worth it to go ahead, get the restriction removed through them, get 10 months experience and then be able to pick another company once I am more experienced?

CRST

First, thank you all for the information on companies who deal with automatics. Now, I have a company CRST who will train me again on 10 speed transmission to get the restriction removed. I love the idea of having a choice, but I know NOTHING about this company. Anyone??

CAREER

Hi guys, my name is Patti and I just finished truck driving school. I guess I thought at 51 it was a great idea, lol, but nonetheless, here I am and I need a little help. I have my CDL but with a restriction to drive automatic only. I do know how to drive a 10 speed, but for a few reasons, I chose to take my test (2nd time around), in an automatic. Are there any good companies out there that have automatics. It seems that who I am applying to ends up not having that option. Thanks for any feedback.

New Driver

Hey Ladies, first and foremost, I wish each and every one of you a Happy, Healthy New Year. Okay, so I have some questions. I just finished truck driving school, got my CDL license with a restriction, which is automatic only. It won't take a lot to fix that, but in the meantime, I need work fast. Do any of you know trucking companies who have automatics?
