Hi, the trucking industry isn't new to me. I spent a fair amount of time on the road with my step-dad, and enjoyed it. I worked residential construction before I got hurt and had to quit. Now at 43 I guess I'm going to have to learn some new tricks. Looking forward to my new career. I've completed CDL school and now going out with a mentor for two weeks. I know this career has a lot of ups and downs, but my motto is whatever it takes to get the job done. I look forward to a long career in the trucking industry.

Thanks for the good advice. I'm trying to learn all I can from my mentor while I'm with him to better prepare for going out on my own with a rookie teammate. I turn to Trucking Truth for answers and just for general knowledge. I'm proud to be a member here and value every article published.

Hi, I start my OTR training with my mentor with PAM Transport. Any advice for a rookie fresh out of school? I'm looking forward to getting my first year in and more. I graduated from FTA in Asheboro NC, now I'm ready to get on the road.

Can anyone give me a rough estimate on how long the hiring process takes? I have good driving record but I have to get my system clean from marijuana. It was recreational use because I quit drinking in '08. After being on disability for 4 yrs getting fixed up so I can return to work. Now I'm ready to become an OTR driver. Thank you for your input.

Upgrade
Well I've completed my first 2 weeks with my mentor at PAM Transport. I start testing for upgrade to first seat next week. I'm feeling pretty confident since my mentor describes me as a driver right out the box. Hope to be assigned a truck next week.
