Are employment contracts the real deal?
I have recently finished cdl school and signed on to work for the company for a year. We were told that no other company can hire us if we don't finish our year contract, is this possible? I understand that they are collecting the tuition payments throughout the year contract but is it really possible that another company couldn't hire me if they had a better position available? I know about being billed by the school for the money and the financial aspect of it but I'm curious if it's really possible that a company can say another company isn't allowed to hire their employee?

He was given the option to come home for Thanksgiving while in school but wants us to save the money for a ticket home and refuses to take the bus back even though the company is offering to pay for it. His initial bus trip there was a bad experience lol

My husband is currently in the Celadon training academy getting his cdl. By mid December he will be starting his 10,000 miles with a trainer which I've been told takes about a month. What I'm wondering is what happens around Christmas time? I'm not necessarily expecting him home but I am wondering what type of scenarios could happen for an OTR driver at Christmas time?

Not finishing company contract..?
Just found out my wife is pregnant and I'm concerned about not being closer to home to help her adjust at least for a short period of time.

Not finishing company contract..?
Has anyone gone to a cdl sponsored training and then not stayed with that company for the whole contract? If so what typically happens? I recently have had a life situation come up where I feel this may be the case and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

A buddy of our has only ever had a local jobs (he refuses to do anything else) straight out of school but I don't know how rare of a thing that is
It depends on the company really. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? Probably not. I know a friend of mine that went and was able to get regional right out of school but nobody that I went to school with got local right away.

Is it possible to get a dedicated or home every night job if you have less than a year of driving under your belt? Planning on doing cdl training through a company sponsored program but not sure if finishing out the year contract is possible because I just found out we are expecting a baby in early summer of next year and I already have a start date and have been approved by a company. I don't know how this type of situation could otherwise be handled so if not finishing out the contract is something that needs to happen to be with my family for the event I want to be as knowledgeable as possible.

I'm definitely hoping that now he can just go in knowing that he only has to pass one test and doesn't have to answer as many questions it will seem easier to him. He says after awhile his head feels like it's spinning, I think he has a lot of trouble keeping himself focused

Two opportunities, need help choosing
I have been pre-approved for a regional flat bed position with Western Express and a regional position with Werner and I'm not sure which is a better choice or if one really is better than the other. I have heard good things about Werner but I'm very interested in driving flatbed too. I am currently otr so a regional opportunity is something I'm very happy has come my way. Does anyone have any input on either company and could steer me in a good direction? Thanks in advance.
