Buying the truck should have been the very last thing you sign after everything else is read and signed. Going to plan b before stepping foot into the truck is a pretty bad sign.

What's your long term game plan? Giving a one year commitment to a company that you undoubtedly like doesn't sound like a deal breaker to me.

Also, why is that clause in there? I'm assuming they have contracted freight. I'm assuming they're not just using brokers.

How do you sign on with a company without owning a truck first? Never thought that was possible but I guess I could be wrong. I don't have a problem driving for them for a year either. My problem is that certain clause because they strictly use load boards and do not have any contracted freight! Also the fact that no other O/O driving for them has had any type of contract. This is telling me that for reasons unknown to me or the dispatcher(who also disagrees with contract) the owner does not want me to continue hauling for them. Which brings me back to my original reason for this post! Not to be put down for the choice I made but instead to gain advice as to a good company to sign on as a O/O.

Why wouldn't it be? A driver is limited to how many miles they can run in a week, correct? Which in turn limits their income being paid per mile. Tell me its not possible to make the same amount of money on percentage and having to run less miles, use less fuel, less wear n tear on truck, etc. So yea its makes sense to me that you are better off being paid percentage rather than by the mile.

Once again, I had a plan that was in full force until the owner sprung the contract on me. He has other O/O that are running for him and never had to sign a contract! So did I think he would make me sign one after running as a company driver for 2 yrs for him? NO, I didn't expect that at all and niether did the dispatcher or other O/O's.

I've been searching for another company to sign on with and my purpose of posting here was with the thoughts that some of you "old school" drivers would offer some insight on which companies pay percentage instead of limiting my income by running for pay per miles! A simple request. But so far all I've been told is I'm a fool and don't know what I'm doing! Great help! I'm sure all your plans in life have never fell apart and forced you to resort to a Plan B?

Wow Old School! So I went back OTR after running local for 2 months! Been with the same company ever since. If you read my post correctly, I stated I was signing on with company I'm currently at until I received a copy of the O/O contract stating if I leave within 1 yr then I cannot contact any brokers, shippers, receivers, etc for 4 yrs. Guess you missed that part, huh? So Yes I had a plan but now that plan has changed as they often do. I see nothing has changed here in this forum and those that say they'll offer advice or help others still down drivers for the choices they make.

Ive bought my own truck and looking for some insight on which companies are better and pay percentage. Looking to pull reefer preferably but dry van is an option too. Original plan was to sign on where I've been a company driver for 2 yrs but once I seen the contract its not going to happen. Company put a 4yr non compete clause in contract stating if I terminate contract I could be held legally responsible if I use any shipper or broker that as been used during my contract agreement😱

I read every post on this thread not realizing it was from 8mo ago. I want to know what happened!!! Is this guy still around? What happened with his time at Trans Am?

Yes I am still around. I drove for Trans Am for 4 months. I was offered a local driving job in January driving flatbed for a lumber company. I'm making more money than I did with Trans Am. Plus I'm home everynight and off on weekends. I enjoyed my time with Trans Am but have 5 kids between the ages of 6-12. My youngest asked me to quit so he could spend more time with me. So I did!

While at Trans Am I was gone 4-5 weeks at a time and only home 2-3 days at a time. I talked to my kids everynight and they lived getting post cards from all the different places I went. But spending time with them was much more important to me.

If anyone has questions bout Trans Am I will do my best to answer them.

I am looking through the reviews and notice that some are wrong. Specially Trans Am. I drive for them for 4 months before I took a local job where I'm home every night. Been thinking about going back out OTR but not with Trans Am.

My 6 month solo anniversary is coming up in 10 days. 10 DAYS!! It doesn't feel like it's been that long at all.

I'll be honest. I've been putting out some feelers as far as a potential move to another company. Nothing set in stone of course, but I have a couple of options that look pretty promising.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have anything against TransAm. I get good miles every week, I have an awesome dispatcher and I get home on time, every time. It's going to take a heck of a good offer to get me to leave all of that. To start over from the bottom is a daunting task, so it's going to have to be a really good step up.

So, no decisions have been made yet. But I'll keep y'all updated!

Hey Chickie, I'm curious as to who you have for a DM. I'm doing pretty good with my "Business Manager" at Trans Am so far but after 10 weeks I go into the Driver Manager stage. I'd like to know which ones are better than others if possible. I did 2875 miles last week even after sitting in Holcomb, KS for 32 hours waiting on Tyson to have my load ready! Running everything out west so far. Would really like to make it to the east someday! Preferably a run to Upstate N.Y. so I can stop and say Hi to family and grand babies. Let me know bout dispatcher if ya will I'd greatly appreciate it

Btw... I forgot whether you had a CDL or needed to go through the testing.. but do you need to sign a year contract for the training?

I already have my CDL Rainy. I had a B for 20 yrs and now have my A as of August 5th. I appreciate your posts it does Give me some insight as to what is ahead and the best part of your post is that you're not treating me like some imbecile like others have in this forum. I take in everything that's said here but when I'm judged and belittled I get defensive.

They are flying me to Dallas instead of Kansas where you went. I'll be starting out at the Rockwall Terminal. They are putting me up at a Best Western. Thanks for mentioning the 90 day thing. I wasn't told about that.
