Driving with a therapy animal

When it comes to service animals, there's a clear line about what they are. Therapy/ESAs are not covered by the ADA. It doesn't matter if a Dr "certifies" with a letter or not and many companies are preying upon people's information between the two's classifications.

Example: I can get a dog with no formal training for my autistic son and have it as a EAS. Does it mean that it's special? No, it's just a title regardless what my son benefits from it.

Say that I get a formally trained dog that specializes in calming him down when he has a meltdown, when he's stimming more than usual, keeps him from wandering away from us and if needed search and rescue. Now that's a service dog covered by the ADA.

Personally I believe that since people (not saying the OP is this kind of person) have been abusing the title of EAS, it needs a major overhaul before these animals get protections outlined in the ADA.

Thank you for your service. I have many family and friends in the Armed Forces.

How hard to pass D.O.T physical (aspergers+3 meds

Please forgive me for revising this zombie thread, but I can shine some light on this for future reference.

I am an Aspie myself and I've been driving for over six months now. Like the OP, I do take one of the mentoined meds (Buspar). Another med I am on is AdderallXR (25mg). My Dr had no problems signing off the authorization for the AdderallXR ,but the caveat was that I was to be on Buspar instead of Xanax.

I was completely honest with my DOT physicians (I've had three physicals, two with the same for school and my current local company, one with Schneider) and came prepared with all meds and authorization letter. I was told that I was one of the most well prepared visits ever. The only questions they asked about them was to be straight up with them about how the meds affect me and I was honest. I was issued a one year card, but I can't complain because the company pays for them.

Yes, I'll admit that I was sweating bullets because I didn't know my Dr's attitude about signing off on medications like these and then going to the physicals, but it all worked out in the end.

I have been driving with a perfect safety record when I've been told many times that I wouldn't be able to make it as an Aspie and having ADD. I am not by any means trying to be on a soapbox, so please don't take it that way. There is hope for people like the OP and myself to have a rewarding career as a driver, we just have some extra hoops to jump through compared to "Typicals" 😊

Boredom on the Road

I agree with Kurt. Old post but all great ideas. I've been thinking about bringing one of my guitars so I won't get rusty while I'm out on the road. Hey maybe I'll finally be able to play and sing at the same time lol. I was also thinking about bringing my vaping lab (if one can call it that) so I can experiment making new flavors. The last thing I want to do is go back to smoking.

Just another low bridge strike after following GPS

There's one in Davenport IA (Rt 61 South) that is notorious for eating trucks and it's clearly labeled. I think my instructor mentions it at least twice a day in class.
