Active Duty looking into trucking career
Honestly I'm more comfortable with hard work and long hours. I worked with my dad when I wasn't in school since I was 10 and no stranger to 70-80 hour work weeks so I'm sure I'll feel right at home.

Wow, thanks for all the comments. My biggest concern so far was picking the wrong company. But looks like nothing to worry about so that definitely puts my mind at ease. I talked to a school this morning in OKC and will start working on getting set up for a class here soon. Hopefully I'll see you guys and gals on the road in a few months.

Thanks for the clarification, it didn't seem right since they didn't say why to avoid Swift. That's why I wanted to ask on here so thank you.

Thanks for the info. I heard from a Covenant driver to avoid Swift like the plague. Is Swift really that bad? I've looked into Werner a lot so they are one that I'm interested in. I was also wondering about Roehl, Schneider, Wil-Trans, and TMC if anybody has any feedback. Also, some of the different types of pay are not taxable income correct?

Active Duty looking into trucking career
Hey everybody, new guy here. I'm currently Active Duty in Tinker AFB, OK but looking at separating this year to go into trucking. I'm trying to get the most recent information and experiences with veteran friendly companies. I've read about some with VA approved OJT, military experience to truck driving experience, so on and so forth but I'd like to get current and former driver's feedback on these companies. Mainly pay (Who doesn't like money?), flexibility and opportunities, hometime, and any complaints. I've helped my dad on his local Little Debbie route so I've dealt with receiving and understand SOME issues with those types of accounts (Dollar General, Family Dollar, Walmart, etc) so I'm also curious about specific details about not liking some Dedicated routes since I'd probably look into Dedicated and Regional. I'm TRYING to look into jobs in Oklahoma or Northern MS and Memphis, TN area just to narrow it down. Any comments and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Bald Fade. I've actually looked at Schneider a good bit and plan on using my Post 9/11 benefits so really looking at the companies offering apprenticeships. I'm actually making a list of companies with apprenticeship, their operating ares, etc as we speak.
